Entry of the Month - October Voting and November Nominations
Created | Updated Nov 29, 2007
Voting Starts Now!
Voting now opens for the October Entry Of The Month. To vote for an Entry, please make a single post to the voting forum below.
IMPORTANT: Please only post once to the voting forum. Votes can then be quickly counted without having to double-check. Please do not try to vote anywhere else. You may vote for your own Entry if you wish. This system is reliant on your goodwill and honesty.
Candidates For October's Entry Of The Month
The Human Respiratory System - the most 2legs has ever written without mentioning badgers, nighthoover or the mysterious 'teh'
How To Grow Broad Beans - they taste great with a bit of olive oil and parmesan, you know
The Nerd's Guide to Pull-ups - because, let's face it, we're all nerds really, aren't we?
Ligers and Tigons - archetypal h2g2: something you never thought you needed to know.
Writing Systems - absorbing if straightforward stuff from the unofficial prince of the EG
Frankenstein - the Legacy - last but not least from a brilliant series of Shelley Entries
Envy-Free Cake Division - how mathematicians spend their time at parties
Hidden Hemel Hempstead: Boxmoor - a well-written, positive first-time Entry on a hidden jewel
How Does This Work?
The starting point of EOTM is to gather a list of nominations. At this point, it would probably be a good idea to
visit the Unofficial Front Page Archives,
if you are not yet acquainted with them.
IMPORTANT: Please check the date on the Entry you are nominating. It happens that old Entries are sometimes put back on the Front Page for a 'second spell'. The Entry Of The Month must be actually first published in the month in question.
The second article of the month will be to vote on the shortlist of
nominated Entries and award EOTM status. I don't intend to have secret
ballots or any such rubbish, just a series of fora for voting.
What Are The Criteria?
This is either the crowning glory or the thorn in the rose - there
aren't any! What we're looking for are the Guide Entries that have
appealed most to Joe Public over the past month, and people are bound
to have different selection policies. Perhaps your vote might go to
Entries that have amused you, or maybe you'd rather nominate those
that are sparklingly written or on a topic you are particularly
interested in.
All an Entry needs to qualify is to have been put on the Front Page
for the first time in the last month - please check the date when
making your nominations.
Whatever your criteria, please add any of your own
nominations to the nominations forum below. The last thing I want this to do is
turn into a one-man show; I'm trying to practice democracy here,
dammit!
Mu Beta's Shortlist for November 2007
These are my personal favourites; if you'd like to nominate your
own, please post to the Nomination forum below.
Pink - thankfully, not the singer, but a whole bunch of stuff about every 7-year-old girl's favourite colour.
First Steps To Survival in an Inflatable Liferaft - hey! You never know when this sort of stuff might come in handy.
Bonnie and Clyde - poetry, romance and gunplay all tucked into a few thousand words.
Opus Numbers - a surprisingly engaging piece of musical whimsy.
David Bowie - The Man Who Fell to Earth - the words 'long overdue' were written for this brilliant piece of collaborativeness1.
Granada, Andalucia, Spain - probably nowhere better to imagine you were on a bitingly cold British winter's evening.
Again, I would like to emphasise that this is not a definitive
shortlist - please nominate your own favourite Entries. Voting will
commence next week.
