I am a dad to a 2 year old boy, and we have another little thing on the way in, em, possibly the next 2 weeks?
I would very much accept the comments of many people here already, that well intentioned people, who only succeed in making you feel inferior, should keep their mouth shut. I am reading a great book "Toddler Taming", which gives us parents a great amount of empathy and latitude, and advises very common-sense techniques for managing the extremes of our young 'uns behaviour.

I tghink it can depend upon the type of induction and the type of equipment that particular hospital has. My place only has fetal monitoring equipment that involves lying down, so that's what they make you do.
It's funny how it varies so much across the country, isn't it? And my hospital doesn't like doing tours now, 'cos they've gone to a small number of private rooms, so they can't guarantee a slot. Shame - I think that really would make a difference...
Anybody know where I can get a spaghetti tree?

Er, no - I get paid slightly less than him as well! Also, where I live (Cork) doesn't really translate into a good name for a babby!

I started a new thread about the birth business if anyone is interested - I know these conversations can get a bit too much for squeamish Dads.

Hi I'm Helen (user name 6.48etc, but that's a long story)
I have a five year old called hannah (nicknamed H2 and that too is a long story)
I'd like to mention to Cloviscat that I didn't realize I was pregnant for four months and carried on taking anti-histmines, asthma medication, codeine based painkillers, NSAID's, a course of antibiotics and a course of topical steroids. I still ended up with a very healthy beautiful 9lb 1oz baby girl. It's too late now to change what medication you've taken so why worry! Enjoy your pregancy and hopefully you will have a beautiful baby like mine (although hopefully a *little* bit smaller....
H2 was having her breakfast this morning when she turned around and looked at e with her serious face and asked "Mummy, how do babies get out of their Mummy's tummies?" Totally unprepared I told her that when they got heavy they just dropped out of their own accord. "Oh" she said, "I though they had to pull them out with forceps"
I must remember to check what they're teaching her at school!

Lady of the Lake {A friend to all, a lover of none} Posted Mar 16, 2002
Hi everyone
I'm Lady more commonly know as Magic, my sons 8 and the only thing I can say is that the older they get, the more difficult they get, by that I mean that they know what they want and don't want but I still love him to bits.
Best bit of advice I'd give anyone having a baby is....do what you feel is right for you and your baby, you'll know if it isn't right. If you want to breastfeed then do it, I did for 9 days and wish I could have done it longer but my son was a hungry monster and it didn't feed him enough so I had to opt for the bottle but he's still a very fit healthy 8 year old.
Good luck to all you new mums and mums to be.

Hi Lady, good to see you here To me the age of eight seems such a long way off, I've just bought Dom a couple of tops for the summer aged 12 - 18 months, and that feels like a huge step!

Eddie's only 10 months, and I'm buying his summer clothes in age 2-3 years! He's already wearing 18-24 months
He's just started bum-shuffling! No crawling for him!!

Have any of you ever wondered where they get kids clothes sizes from?...they never fit the age they are made for, my son is 8 and already wearing 12 - 13 yr old clothes but then again he's in an adult size 7 shoe

Mistdancer-X-sporadically coherent Posted Mar 18, 2002
My 5 year old is wearing age 8, and is in size 12 shoes!
Eddie is rather big though....he weighs 28lbs(2 stone) and is off the top of the centile charts for his age!!! He's tall too though, so he's in proportion!
I guess I just have big babies

Whisky Posted Mar 18, 2002
Hi all
not sure why I've never gotten round to posting here yet, but here goes:
Name: Whisky (aka David if you were really wondering).
I'm the proud (sometimes) father of a 'fwee n u haff' year old boy (at least that's how old he tells me he is!)
I'm actually a part-time single parent
Which, in plain english means that I'm divorced with joint custody, meaning that Douglas lives with me three days per week and his mum four days per week - and if that sounds strange, it is, but it seems to work and as he's happy with the situation both his mother and I have decided to totally ignore all those people who've said it wasn't a good idea...
It does help that mother and I only live about five minutes apart though and are still on speaking terms!
Oh, and as his mother is French and I'm English, the little horror is growing up to be bi-lingual (meaning he will completely ignore anything you tell him to do in two languages instead of one )
That's enough babble for the time being anyway, time I got on with some work
