Princess Bride

Hello! I am the proud mother of Emlyn Grace, a 5 month old beautiful girl. She's napping right now (knock on wood), so I have a couple minutes. I'm excited to join the group- I saw it on the "Expressing Breastmilk" entry.

Simon the Silly Sausage (Gone AWOL from h2g2)

Mine was on the 01 May. We were going to call her April originally, but missing by one day, it seemed a bit wrong.
I really love the name Grace too, can't believe how often I hear it these days though, we thought it was a bit original and old fashioned, but I keep hearing it everywhere now lol.
Hope you are enjoying parenthood us much as me smiley - smiley

Yeah, parenthood is great. Of course it's 2:30 am and she's awake, and I'm not going to feed her, and she's mad about that. But I still think it's great. She went trick-or-treating as a bunny tonight. Really cute. Yes, Grace is very popular this year. And recently. For us it's a family name. I have a sister, an aunt, a grandma, a great-aunt, and others who are named Grace.

Hello Anna, we are in Texas. Emlyn just didn't want to sleep more than 3 hours at a time last night, and therefore I didn't get to... oh well. Such is life. We got some pretty good candy for us parents though... smiley - smiley

Ythika the purple giraffe - Minister for Unusual Musical Instruments

Hi,
I'm Cathy and my daughter is Gyaan (pronounced Je-arn). She is 2 and 1/3 and is a real sweety. She looks so much like her Daddy that some people have said "we know who the father is but who's her mother?"
I love her because...she makes me happy when I am down, she makes me laugh, she makes me cry, she makes my day every day.
It took us a few days to name her. But then she pull a face and for the first and last time she looked like my Granny (Jean), so she was named after her. Sort of, anyway.
It's almost midnight here and we have swimming lessons and visitors tomorrow so I should probably go and get some sleep.

A very proud Giraffe

Hello Clare

Of course I have heard you mentioned many times by Simon - nice to speak to you directly!

How are Grace and Charlie? Did you all have a good Christmas? Did I hear that Grace was getting a play kitchen? I imagine that Charlie might be getting more mileage out of it right know, but my baby Elspeth (similar age to Grace) does *love* hitting pans with a wooden spoon - ow!

Well I haven't introduced pans to my 7 month old, Emlyn, but I'm sure she would love them. She's crawling and getting into everything now...

Pans are great. sealed biscuit tins are also excellent for drumming. I'm finding that the kitchen is a great store for 'dstracting' objects when things are getting fractious. her favourite of the moment is: a plastic lecon juicer!

She's not crawling yet (she never was a roller-over, so I think the idea of self-propulsion asn't occurred to her yet) but she stands against tables for whole chunks of time, and keeps throwing herself from sitting toall fours, so I think so form of movement is inevitable smiley - run aargh! safety locks! Tidying-up!...HOOVERING!!! smiley - yikes

Old set of keys is excellent as a distraction.

I never used to let my children play with my shoulder bag, except for very special occaisions. The result was I always had something guaranteed to keep them interesteded if needed

Oh I agree, handbags are brilliant. It's the thrill and the lure of the unknown!

Just to add to the pan/biscuit tin thing - I recently discovered that panettone tins are great too - also good for putting bricks into, or cars, or whatever. Some also come with a handy carry handle. A musthave for the toddler about town smiley - smiley

Also good in the kitchen: pegs in a collander (though with close supervision because of small bits) fridge magnets (we've got loads, for some reason people keep giving them to us as presents) plastic boxes with lids. Then of course there is the indispensible cardboard tube from inside the kitchen roll. Toot, toot!

smiley - biggrin

And the straps and zips and fiddly bits on handbagsand rucksacks - MMmmm baby heaven smiley - smiley

She loves my car keys, but it does worry me the way she thrcshes them about - I'm sure she could hurt herslef. If I can distrqact her into chewing the leather key fob, I'm laughing...

I wonder if I could find enough 'safe but interesting' objects to make her up a keyring of her own? She was given some plastic toy keys, but they're so evolved down the safety road that they look and feel toomuch like any other toy to have any special interest...hmmm - what could I put on a ring for her?
