Photos of the wee ones on the internet

kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013

Thought I'd ask the parent's group about this. The recent meet photos were put up and there were a few photos of my boys in there. I was wondering how I felt about it and concluded that a couple of pictures on the internet without their names attached didn't bother me. Sol, on the other hand, requested that pictures of the Star be taken down. Now I feel like a bad mummy!

My facebook photos of the boys (which have their names on) are restricted only to my friends.

Should we worry about images of our kids appearing on non-restricted sites? What are the potential hazards?

Sol

Well, I feel like a damn idiot, if it makes you fel any better.

I am just indulging the same squiralliness about the internet and privacy that makes me feel slightly uncomfortable that there are pix of _me_ up there. I grit my teeth over that, because really, how mad do I want to seem, but in the Star's case I am indulging myself.

It's not really to do with safty or anything. I just don't want any link between Solnushka and my real name. Although I'm certainly living in a fantasy world there if I think removing pix will do that.

I do worry about violating their privacy much more than any safety issues, which is why I don't post names or other private info. On another website I frequent the mums often have pictures of their kids, their names and their dates of birth as part of their signature which makes me very uncomfortable. I don't know why though!

I wonder what possible harm can be done by having that information on the internet.

I hate the pictures of me, but only because I look so fat!

Hmmm, and now I've noticed photos of the boys on other people's facebook accounts, where I have no control over them. This bothers me, but haven't asked for them to be taken down yet. Not actually sure what I want to do.

There are lots of pictures of our children with their names on non-restricted sites, including this one, and it's never bothered me. Charlotte's picture appeared on the BBC News site with her name and the town we live in.
