Absinth vs. Tequila

Absinth was highly reveared as it is now for its Hullucinagenic (spelling irrelevent) properties. Tequila is reveared for making people feel happy, making them feel fine. However Absinth is illeagal in virtually all European countries and also the USA due to its link with turning people quite insane. It was thought that during the reign of Louis the 16th in France that two thirds of the Assylem population was there due to the adverse effects of absinth!

Absinth on it's own .... Great!
Absinth mixed with Raspberry schnapps .... even better!
Absinth mixed with Bacardi 151 .... Don't ever EVER try it if you want to live!
As to the hallucigent er, hellucigenetik, er hallu, er funny properties of absinth, I've never been able to drink enough in one go to try it out. As far as I know, although the properties are still their, the good old UK laws on food/drink preperation have now made it legal only because it's a lot safer than before. (Good for your health, but bad for your parties).
Perhaps we should start a PGGB level on drinks - I.E. how close a drink is to a Pan Galactic GargleBlaster ? Bacardi 151 is the strongest drink I've ever had and that must be getting to at least, oh, 20% PGGB !!!!

The halluconegenic ingredient in Absinth is Wormwood
I know about this stuff. The only way to drink it is:
Pour the Absinth into a glass, add an equal measure of water. Get a teaspoonful of sugar, pour a small amount of Absinth on it. Light it and burn it till it caramelises, then quickly stir the sugar into the drink.
Down it in one. May all your parties be joyous after this

Absinth is actually legal in the UK, and is apparently now available, unfortunately I've heard it costs £40 a bottle ($60)
so I think I'll stick to Tequilla.
I'm not sure of the hillucinijenic properties of tequilla, last time I drank half a bottle of tequilla I didn't hillucinate, I was just sick.

Now THAT would be a good guide entry!

Don't set fire to Absinth! This only burns off the alcohol. No, no, no, drink it with suger by all means but keep it free of fire for full and dazzling effect! Even better, and I would remember this for the millenium celebrations if I were you: A double of chartreuse, a double of tequilla and a double of absinthe all in the same glass. Mix together and bung in a cherry. I call it the Cherry Bomb? any takers?

The closest thing to a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster that I have ever been foolish
enough to drink was prepared as follows:
Put a bottle of Bacardi 151, a bottle of Everclear & two heavy glasses in the freezer.
Get a good night's sleep.
The next day, pour equal parts 151 and Everclear in the glasses, add a dash of
Rose's Lime & a twist of lime.
This is not for the delicate of palate, throat or stomach.
Just as masochistic in it's own special way is a concoction the imbibing of which
has been known to result in waking up naked in another Bourough very unsure as
to one's name: The Screaming Nazi.
This hideous brew is the result of mixing Peppermint Schnapps and Jagermeister.
I personally have never actually tried one. I've never met a Nazi I liked before, and see
no likelihood of changing now.

mmm. absinth when prepared properly with carmelized suger melted in absinth ladden spoon and then stirred into the drink, is very pleasing. I understand if it is consumened in efficient quantities it gives off all the same effects of Intoxication Plus. As I lived for eight years in Texas I can not put tequla in the same catagory or the same week as absinth, the sweet ambrosia.

Just to clarify... Hill's Absinth (made in the Czech republic) is available to buy in the UK. However, this is not the same composition as the original Absinth and contains far less Wormwood (or the active ingredient), and thus is far less likely to induce the hallucinations. If you want real absinth, you need to get your butt over to France and make discreet enquiries to the locals, who will often point you in the right direction :o)

Oh, and by the way, if you live in the UK, you can order direct from the importers at:-

Somehow the hallucinagenic (forgive the spelling) properties of tequilla always alude me, usually right before i pass out in a pool of my own vomit, and as for the absinth, it's illegal here, then again what isnt, but I have had the opportunity to try some...and i don't know how the hell you stand it. Then again i dont know how the hwll i stand tequilla.........odd.....hhmmm...oh well

They`ve just got Absinthe on at my local - at £4 a shot it`s a bit expensive, and I`ve yet to
find someone who`ll try it with me. I`m intrigued by this Bacardi 151 stuff though - what
the hell is it and where do I get some?!?

Skorpio Posted May 4, 1999
Id give it a go at £4 a shot, but what is Bacardi 151 ?

Yes indeedy Bacardi 151, as it says on the label _The Mixable One_. Have a go of JagerMeister some day, that'll rock you back on your heels.
