Sorry I do what I think might be obvious guesses in advance, and I predicted that one.

Still positive points to be won though. Just don't be obvious. smiley - ok

has federal trial been mentioned, or court marshal, was he an FBI witness

No he was not an FBI witness.

FBI history goes back to 1887 but emerges in a recognisable form as an independent agency of interstate investigation only as late at 1908 and consisted of just 12 people.

Expert witness lying.....................

Not a DR!

Could this be that he was giving evidence before the times that both prosecution AND defence were able to peruse such evidence?

ie. The defense never knew beforehand what he was going to say???

(Hides from barrage of klaxons!)

Nothing like that GT.

I think to focus it, I would nudge you towards consider about what was he lying and what was the consequence of his falsehoods.

But would that hold up legally? Would anyone actually believe him? There must some element of the burden of proof here. He must be able to prove that the accused is guilty beyond any doubt, though the question would seem to suppose that many were not. Surely even having witness from medium must count as hearsay, and so be inadmissable?

Or am I underestimating the credulity of Merkins?

I just heard Andy Hamilton on Radio 2, then switch over and heard him Radio 4 as well. He wasn't talking about being a fake doctor in New York a hundred years ago though. Just Outnumbered and Old Harry's Game.

Ho hum.

They did believe him is the point but about what and what happened next - that is Quiet Interesting - I shall award that a DGI +1 for being rightly suspicious.

Four swans. Force one.

Is this to do with the concept of various degrees of murder?

No, it was my rather loose pun to get to "foresworn" into the discussion - to point you all towards the court system wherein Hamilton plied his trade.

Hmm. "the court system wherein Hamilton plied his trade"

So is this a state court, a federal court, an unofficial one, or something else I haven't considered?
