Traveller in Time not very talkative in the beginning

Besides I would not answer any of such questions, first show me what you have to offer! "

No, it doesn't. I made it clear in the original suggestion thread that the fields were to be optional (and explicitly marked as such!) and only of the level of trivia - such as what's your favourite colour, football team, music, etc. Any answers to these could be put in a standard format bit of text as the starting version of the page.

VV... for the ... You can have it back now [I hope you don't mind me having blown my nose in it err quite a few times.]...
SEF... I thought I saw that somewhere... That was long before SSO if I remember well...
And yes, a few general questions on what they like etc could make a lot of difference between us posting a very standard welcome message and one a bit more personalised...

Giving welcome to blank spaces, well from reading the key to * meaning on the <./>NewUsers</.> list, it does say which newbies are the ones to welcome. Then again it don't say not to welcome any other type of newbie either.
Since not all ACEs involve themself with giving welcome to newbies and that be a gripe of those that do alot to welcome newbies... Maybe any *first welcome* should be taken from ACE hands... Every personal space is not blank, there is a standard text to begin with. So make selection of the text from a list of possible welcomes, no attempt to hide it's automated, but part of the 'fun' to be assigned a welcome by 'Malvin' or other character from the book. - Any ACE would still be free to do a follow-on / follow-up welcome, with no preasure given to the task.

Mort - a middle aged Girl Interrupted Posted Sep 29, 2004
Originally newbies had to write something on their PS before they could be posted to by ACES/anyone.
This was changed so that all newbies could be posted to, making sure they got the help rather than wandering the site unaced making faux pas etc.
The bottom line being anyone who joins the site becomes someone who goes on the 'needs aced' list until somebody/anyone posts to them.
The difficulty with your suggestion Jab is that once someone has been posted to by anyone then they are no longer on that newbie list (of needing aced) and go onto a general list of newbies which includes all those already aced as well as posted to, and the only way to check is by manually going through them. So a *first welcome* would actually increase workload.
In an ideal world there would be
List 1 - newbies from this site only and when an ace (and only an ace) posts to them then they are by default removed from that list.
List 2 - newbies from this site for stats, GA's, and generally happy people saying hello.
There would then be no need to check the ** list, as the 'ace list' would be enough. Aces are happy as they have a definitive list of who needs welcomed. Everybody else is happy as they can say hello to newbies without making life harder for aces. This is similar to the way Speglux was running his programme.
I suspect that other DNA sites use the lists so in reality it may be too complicated or not possible to have a seperate ace reactive list.

Well Mort, according to <./>NewUsers</.> text, ACEs are to welcome people with an updated introduction and no postings to their space. Hmm, if there is a post, then despite what I said in 297 it does say who not to welcome in a way. It's a generic speak instruction, needing ammendment, even more so if it is totall out of line with the *do all ideal* you point to.
As for better seperation of newbies, yeah I agree there is a need, othewise it is unfair on the minority that do so many welcomes. Nah, let the machies do the welcome, ACEs to do the 'newbie chat', the three or four post that follow a welcome, more of the catalyst roll.
Being ACEd is like getting on a plane, some loverly gives you a crash course in crash procedure, staps you in *then* ask if there is anything you'd like. I'd like to ask the same questions every other sod would ask time and time again: "Is it safe?" Having somebody there to ask has to be more important than the initial "here are the doors" speach I missed for looking out the window at terra fima for the 'last time'.

It appears there is no 1* & 2** now, I really should keep up better with what's going on, but ah, my memory
After I'd Welcomed a few the other day, I clicked Refresh on my browser, and the ones I'd Welcomed disappeared from the list...whoosh like
So, it would appear that even if any ACEs had the time to check that all newbies have had a 'suitable' greeting, which we don't, we couldn't even if we could...confused? good
Now I suppose someone will come along and tell me how mad I am, and that's completely wrong, ah well, I'll risk it for a biscuit.
