Actually, glancing over at that horrible purple and brown monstrosity you have the gall to call a community I'd say that the whole thing is revolting
How dare you come over here declaring war on us, your founders, elders and altogether betters, without us you would be nothing...
Actually, you're not an awful lot even with us, but that's another story...
And as for being a "sister site"... hmm, if you mean the sort of little sister that really embarrased you when you were younger by hanging onto your coattails and wanting to follow you everywhere, then I guess you're right...
Hmm, think about this before you decide to commit virtual suicide... we have not only hundreds more users, but we've also got crack troops armed with spud guns and vicious looking sporks , an airforce of Guardian Angels and a religious corps of nighthoover priests to look after our spiritual needs...
Don't you think you're getting in a little out of your depth?
Unless of course this war is just an attempt to get UN aid and extra server space after we thrash you soundly!
Pah! I laugh at your declaration of war!
Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of Elderberries!
Oh, and just to keep things at their proper levels....

sporks, night-hoovers?
"your founders, elders and altogether betters"
not only are you lot institutionalised to the point of scary-under-stairs-tentacle creatures, you're all, also, incredibly aloof and patronising!
Myooo myooo myooo if it wasn't for h2g2 Collective wouldn't even exist.
So?
What, we should live in servitude to the founder site? Pomposity magnified!
Have you been outside lately? There's a whole world out there...

Astro, did you ever read the Monroe Doctrine?
"President James Monroe's annual message to the U. S. Congress of Dec. 2, 1823, outlined three essential points that in later years became a cardinal doctrine of U. S. foreign policy. The points were as follows: (1) 'the American continents, by the free and independent condition which they have assumed and maintain, are henceforth not to be considered as subjects for future colonization by any European powers"; (2) "we should consider any attempt {by the nations of Europe} to extend their system to any portion of this hemisphere as dangerous to our peace and safety"; and (3) "in the wars of the European powers in matters relating to themselves we have never taken part, nor does it comport with our policy so to do.'
The cause of this announcement was the widespread rumor in Europe that France, prompted by the Holy Alliance, would dispatch troops to the New World to put down the revolts in the Spanish colonies. British Foreign Secretary George Canning had proposed a joint Anglo-American protest against European intervention in the New World, but on the advice of his secretary of state, John Quincy Adams, Monroe opted for a unilateral U.S. statement. By the time Monroe sent his message to Congress, however, Canning had persuaded the French government to renounce any intention of conquest or annexation in the New World. Monroe considered the warning to Europe a prudent diplomatic move called forth by the state of European politics; he knew that the British government would take care of its enforcement" (Robert H. Ferrell).
Astro, your rebuttals are unfounded.
"sporks, night-hoovers?"
This is the way some people have chosen to communicate complex ideas. Do you also dislike the uses of anything beyond the Queen's English?
"not only are you lot institutionalised to the point of scary-under-stairs-tentacle creatures, you're all, also, incredibly aloof and patronising!"
Do you hear that ringing? It's the pot calling, and he says the kettle is black. Under the cloak of the BBC, both sites are institutionalized. Here, we on h2g2 are building an encyclopedia in the the style of Adams, Huxley and Vonegut; presenting facts in an amusing way, rather than grim browns and greys.
"Myooo myooo myooo if it wasn't for h2g2 Collective wouldn't even exist. - So? - What, we should live in servitude to the founder site? Pomposity magnified!"
If you read my opening comments on the Monroe Doctrine, you would understand that the Collective is, like the American Colonies, a growingly independant child. For a child to attack its parents is unthinkable. What you call pomposity, we consider dignity. We are not aloof, for h2g2 is a community meeting place open to all - for free, I might add, with no pop-up advertisements.
"Have you been outside lately? There's a whole world out there..."
Yes, there is a great big world of facinating things, and one of the virtues of a mixed culture is the formation of differnt methods of communication. Like styles of painting or music, H2G2 and the Collective are two seperate bodies that need not fight.
What the f*** is your problem?

Well done, Mr. C.
I'll restate what I said in another thread... I've found that more often than not people who have the need to chime in loudly about how much more they are than those around them are anything but...
Also I can't help but wonder why they are inviting members to go to their site to argue this. Could they need members??

I think we should boycott. That's what my mother did in the 60s.

as far as i am concerned those who believe they have more or are better are nothing bur ignorent children, ive made a recent "proverb" (or so my peers call it, i dont think its that good) but it goes like this,
"If one thinks one has the best and is the best one must at one time be the worst. Someone whose thinks they are rich much have had the need to steal and eat rubbish, those who think they are more intelligent must have had nothing more then the skill to speak, unable to control what they said. Therefore if someone here is clearly stating that he is better then others let him put forth his proof of his failure and patheticality to us, then we have no right to deny him. For put simply, one cannot recognize what is true, complete, and great, until one knows its opposite, being false, incomplete, and minor, or to the extream the entense negative of such things if they are emotion and knowledge."
