The Aroma Café: Past Christmas

*wanders in, absently reading a scrap paper, apparently with directions on it*
...now let's see, Carmel said it'd be around here; if that bunny gave me the wrong turn at Albuquerque I'll...! Oh, hello, it looks like I found you!
Jumping into the thread - "Biological changes over time" is now Georgian for "evolution." So they don't acknowledge evolution, but they admit that specis change - they may even explain how it happens. I'm not sure, but I'm encouraged. It's 2 steps back, but it's also one step forward.
Lets just hope they don't teach aquired characteristics.

Hi Mac.
I am rapidly acquiring the characteristic of ! My hard disk with the completed video is dead
. I am hoping that a near complete version is still on the old hard disk and that I can copy it to the new one. But I have lost all the voice over and completed sound track. If I have to start it all over again I would be best avoided entirely.
IIEM a please and stale water for Cassie
, she doesn't like fresh and it is too wet and windy for her to venture out for long to find an alternative.

Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive Posted Jan 31, 2004
I'd like some hot water with a touch of lemon juice please, IIEM. Make sure the stale stuff has been flushed out of the pipes first.
*the machine starts to mutter in a sarcastic tone*
*s Caer* What a dreadful thing to happen to your hard disk. I hope it turns out ok in the end. It's a reminder to us all to back up important files - and yet I hardly ever do.
For students of the English language, Post 74 of F135418?thread=367360&show=20&skip=60 is entertaining.
Today it is raining and miserable so, of course, I'm incredibly chipper . I'll go into town on the
later, I think.

No, Z and Ben, I just saw B and for some reason Ben popped into my head and I thought, "but isn't A a gay man? What would a gay man want to date Ben for, and why would Ben wanted to date a gay man?"
I'll admit that I've been operating on very little sleep, and thus, my confusion.
But on a happier note, I made good money this evening. And I met Courtesy's brother, who is very nice and looks almost nothing like him.

Z Posted Jan 31, 2004
I thought so, but that would be an intresting turn of events.. Good news on making money and meeting Courtsey's brother.
I'd better get on with some w**king unplesent as that seems.

We have officially reached the point of one strike and your out with the Stepson. His father is tired of trans-global micro-management, and I am right up at the edge of what I can cope with, so his father issued a three week ulitmatum last night.
I really want him to stay but I cannot cope as it is, so apart from the ultimatum there are three things we are doing about it.
First off he is going to see an external counsellor, so that he has someone outside the situation to talk to. Having no friends here means that the only person he can talk to at the moment is me, and that is not fair on him.
Secondly I am going to teach him some formal thinking methodologies. The problem is that he is the least contextual thinker I know. He has no concept of cause and consequences, and as a result every action is done in isolation so he is surprised when the results come around and bite him on the bum. This should actually be fun. I love thinking about thinking, and it is an entirely new concept for him. It will be interesting to see what I remember. And the thought of unleashing the Stepson, armed and dangerous, onto an unsuspecting world is more than a little bit thrilling!
Thirdly we are going to write some principals and rules for the flat, so hopefully we can establish a framework of expectations.
He is trying so-o-o-o-o hard, and I am so very fond of him, that I really hope we can work this one out. I am not giving up on him until there really is nothing more I can do, and we have not reached that point quite yet.
In the meantime, some warm water with a teaspoon of sugar and half a teaspoon of salt, IEEM. I am headachy and need to rehydrate.
Ben

Z Posted Jan 31, 2004
Good luck Ben I do hope that things work out for the both of you.
A is desperately cleaning as it would seem that B's idea of a tidy flat doesn't quite match ours. I'm sort of working - well I'll go back to work in a minute..

IIEM, a Lil Special to go -- I have the post office gig this morning.

Coniraya Posted Jan 31, 2004
IIEM a please.
H is busy working on my F hard drive, installing XP. In spite of the 30 day countdown I had ingored the activation message on the now kaput D drive, so H had 4 hours left to install it as new on my F drive. The original C drive, with ME on it remains unaffected so all the data on there is safe. It is largely the recent work on my video that has disappeared and my saved games in Lionheart (I was doing so well too ).
The trusty old server (linux) is my link to the outside world. It's hard disk is largely empty and H won't let me install anything on it. I can't think why

[Mog] Whew ... It's been a lesser-sleep week, and now that we've reached a weekend where we've got nothing planned, I'm relieved at being able to sleep in for a change ...

I've just had an embarrassing moment in Tescos. I'd bought a pink cardigan but the assistant hadn't removed the security tag. I was just trying to ease my trolley past an elderly couple who seemed to be oblivious to the fact that they were preventing anyone from leaving the shop when I felt a tug on my arm and I was led away to help the manager with his enquiries
.
But it's a very nice cardi for a tenner and it goes nicely with the brown cords from M&S.

Z, I do hope A is helping you, since B is *his* boyfriend!!!
The Aroma Café: Past Christmas
Z Posted Jan 31, 2004
He was, I just feel bad not helping people when they're fussing around cleaning. And I do have some pride in my flat. I don't want anyone thinking we're slobs. Well we can be, but I don't want anyone thinking it. I take great pride in not having "typical student digs"..

Titania (gone for lunch) Posted Jan 31, 2004
Embarrassing? Last time that happened to me (no, it *doesn't* happen very often) I turned on my heel, marched up to the counter ignoring the queue, slammed the plastic bag onto the counter and said, loudly and clearly: 'This beeps! Do something about it *now* please!'
The Aroma Café: Past Christmas
Montana Redhead (now with letters) Posted Jan 31, 2004
I don't know. It hasn't happened to me in CA, but I think it would be different than in Montana, where they assume you're innocent. Here, they're suspicious of people who carry large purses!

Ohps I think I've been hit by an enormous dose of Karma.
I cancelled a trip back home to go gliding tomorrow, and I've just found out that the weather is going to be awful... so I probably won't fly.
I can't really go home without warning my family in advance, we're not that sort of familiy, and besides it's really expensive if I don't book my rail ticket in advance.
I think I'll have to work all day to make up for it. Whilst eating vegan food, that's always good for your karma isn't it?

Amy, that once happened to me at a mall in Florida. I bought something in one department store, then headed down the mall to a couple of other stores and was exiting the mall through a different anchor store when the beepers went off and I was stopped by several exceedingly large induhviduals.
As a result, I had to walk all the way back the length of the mall. The shopgirl thought it was funny until I asked for her manager. Which I only did to stop her laughing.

Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive Posted Jan 31, 2004
I didn't hear the alarm go off so the first I knew of it was when I was being manhandled back into the store. Fortunately I still had my receipt in my hand so I could prove I'd paid for everything in my trolley.
