Has anyone (beside myself) read Neal Stephenson. He will be the next Azimov. His writing is recent and very topical. A science fiction writer that knows what the modern society can be capable of.

I'm afraid I don't know anything about Neal Stephenson. Any of his books I may have heard of?

No, I meant that I'd only just come in to start my shift, I'm vaguely on the same time scale as you (Its Norway, lunchtime is at about 11 in the morning) Do you want some toast or anything??

Luna(Queen of Hearts) Posted Dec 6, 1999
It's 8 am on my side of this planet, coffee is a great idea!!
I'm rather big on pastries for breakfast, so I brought my own.
Would anyone like an iced danish, or a muffin?
Just don't muck up your book(s).

So, where are you, Luna? Texas? It's now an hour later and it's 8am at my place in Arizona, so here, coffee all around!
I think that should cover anyone who comes in... I won't actually FILL them til their ordered.

Irving Washington - Gone Writing Posted Dec 6, 1999
Is that two cups of coffee, or two chills caught from wet hair?
*Pours two cups, hands one to kats-eyes and one to Helena*

I'd better start on the washing up... All I'm reading at the moment are "Empire" and "Total Film" film magazines, then I'm reading "How To Dispense With Lawyers".

Neal Stephenson has authored Cryptonomicon, Snow Crash, Zodiac, and Diamond Age: or ayoung ladies primer.

Oh, he's terrific. Like DNA, both funny and intelligent, and extremely well-researched. In Cryptonomicon there is an incredible riff about eating a bowl of Cap'n Crunch (cold cereal) which is detailed to the point of obsession, especially since the eater is achieving the meal in a mediocre hotel somewhere in Manila. And this takes place within the context of a multi-plotted half-historical, half-techno monster of a novel.
I must have read Snow Crash half a dozen times, and given away as many copies.
