let me tell you, if you're french, Ofakim is 'da place'!
dont worry. I dont think I could rustle up more than 6 lines on it.
Then again...
that would be a pretty short and easy entry...

theres an israeli high school there run by a french oleh. therefore, they accept a lot of french girls. if you mention Ofakim to any of the french in my school they go nuts, asking if you'll be going to the 'seminar' there, who do you know there, etc. they seem think the whole place revolves around the french in the seminary.

yeah, I guess there wouldn't be any of that kind of French at Uni.
I think Ramat Beit Shemesh should be added to my list too, if it has any significance at all. Its a pretty little nowhere in middle of noplace, but my nephews live there, and that makes it a tourist attraction already...

I don't think I've ever posted here..I probably was happy to just be a member of the society when I signed up, err, over a year ago .
Anyway. Specialisms?

- Spent a lot of my holidays in west France (Bretagne)
Pretty limited knowledge on further holiday places:
- Netherlands (coast and Amsterdam)
- Paris
- Sweden (Värmland and Stockholm)
- Oslo
- Switzerland (Basel)
hmm... Better just put me in the list for Germany.

Here is my rather limited specialism:
-Alabama, including
-Northport/Tuscaloosa
-Birmingham
-Auburn
-Mobile and last but not least
-Huntsville
I'll try to do a general article about Alabama and then maybe do some more in depth articles about some of the places within it. No telling how long it will take though.

Kat - From H2G2 Posted Oct 9, 2005
I thought I would post this here just in case members are still subscribed here. It's asking for members with a specific speciality.
Does anyone here speak Italian?
You see, I run the H2G2 Language Thing, where people come together to learn, teach, and communicate in a variety of languages. A few people are interested in learning Italian but we don't have anyone who speaks it currently.
If you do speak and write Italian and would be willing to teach, please check out A1145477. You do not need any prvious teaching experience or anything like that, you just need to be...very patient
Anyone else who fancies learning or teaching a language also please do take a look

...I think that even if it's not teaching, but somebody has reasonable Italian and would like to practise it (or help us beginners practise), that would still be great.

I must get round to adding the latest round of specialisms
I can speak and write basic Italian, by the way, but nowhere near the sort of standard else could learn from - they'd just be duplicating my mistakes. And I'm a bit rusty as well...

Valliere Posted Apr 13, 2006
Hello. Just joined, and you could list my specialisms as rural Montana, lower Canadian Rocky Mountain front. Particularly prehistory, history, and geology, but with some modern experience, too.
Some tribal bits of North Africa, but I'd want some serious collaboration on that - haven't been in quite some time and things are changing fast. I'm good at the culture and history part, but not so much the recently modern. That would go, too, for Inuit areas up north, Siberia, and the UK. Willing to research history, culture about anywhere as a collaborator!
Just curious, too, since I thought it might be a cool idea when I was browsing around the EG - Do we have anyone interested in creating a Google Earth kml with all the places featured in "the Universe"? Could be a great way to browse the selections, but I don't know all that's involved...

StephenMarkPickering Posted Nov 13, 2007
Hi
I have a vague general knowledge of many places (I am a lecturer in Primary Education with Geography as my specialsim) so I can help with many places generally. My recent travels have been to The Gambia, working with schools and the National ENvironment Agency of The Gambia and what I would be really interested in is finding someone who can tell me about life in the Sahara, particulary the Tuareg nomads; Western Sahara and the problems of land mines; Mauritania and Mali.
Can anyone out there help?
Many thanks
Stephen

Hello there
I have jsut read that you have had experiences with North Africa and some of the people and tribes living there. Can you tell me a bit more, please? I'd be really interested.

Valliere about three messages up from mine. I have now written to her directly - is this the right way to go about things?

It is, but since Valliere hasn't posted on h2g2 since 22 August 2006, he/she's probably not still around.
