Nah, Jimi Hendrix was the best guitar player ever.

TeaKay Posted Jul 6, 2004
Jimi was one of Brian May's main influences.
I don't think it's possible to say that a particular guitarist is ;the best', just which one's your personal favourite. Jimi's pretty high up on my list (top5, at least), but Brian's at No.1.

When I say 'the best,' I'm refering to how he played it, not necessarily what he played or strictly how well. For example, Jimi played a guitar with his teeth. Did anyone else do that? This question not rhetorical.

Oh good, I came in just as we're talking about rock music I'm set
GO QUEEN!!
I've heard of Jimi, what did he do though? His name is ringing bells, but the connections aren't happening (God I hate those sayings...)

Jimi did Purple Haze, Fire, Crosstown Traffic, Foxey Lady, Wind Cries Mary and many other songs that you'll probably know when you hear them.
He was indeed a very original and influential guitarist (I'll say it again- very definitely one of my favourites), but I don't agree that playing with your teeth makes you better than anyone else. I have played with my teeth before, and that certainly doesn't make me better than Brian May! Mark Knopfler plays electric with his fingers, and BB King doesn't ever play any chords. Both of these are pretty unusual things, but they're so diverse as musicians it's impossible to say who's better!
However, it IS possible to say a guitarist is absolute crap.

Did someone mention Jimi?
Did someone NOT mention Brian May's drop dead gorgeous guitar?
I'll put you up once I can type straight, TB
Do you know, I was outraged to find that someone had tried to tab Jimi... You just can't tab Jimi, it's sacrelidge! [damn the spelling, damn the jetlag....!]

Brian's drop dead gorgeous guitar goes without saying...
Thank you sweetie, look forward to it
I tend to just get Jimi's chords and make my own thing up around them... as you've just got back, I won't correct you

Yay. And official FREAK. I've been told I'm one throughout my life, but now I've got the badge, existentially speaking, to prove it.
Who's the barmaid, and is she single?

To be honest, I don't know much about Burroughs bar his reputation, but at some point will actively seek his literature, just as soon as I finish the pile of books I already intend to read. I found his epilepsy experiments and contributions to modern shamanism and, in a small way, chaos magick to be extremely interesting, although brion Gysin was perhaps more involved in cm.
and I also picked Iommi! He rules!
