That's for police stations, not libraries. And how would that let you watch tv without turning around and looking around a pillar?
Not too many folks have pillars in their houses. I'm impressed. Is it a marble column or a pillar of fire?

He'd fly through the air with the greatest of ease...If he wasn't too lazy to use his trapeze.

Well, I'm sorry you're injured, oh great trapeze flyer, but it was a bit convenient. And the clown had already paid her money. Ok, it was monopoly money, but she paid nonetheless.
