Hi there Moriarty smiley - smiley. What brought you all the way down here to the UnderGuide?

Have you had a look through the various UnderGuide pages; the Miners' page above, the Miners' Survival page, also the <./>underguide</.> HQ pages? And the UG archives A1007876. Just to be sure you know what you're letting yourself in for and what sort of entries we have.

Also the <./>writing-alternative</.> workshop. If you have a read through some entries there and do some commenting, you'll get a feel for what mining's like and it'll give us an idea of your mining style. (Besides which it's fun and there's some good stuff in there.)

Meanwhile I shall check the canary stock for an X-Large ...

The X-Large canaries kept eating the small ones, so I put them in the Archivist's office.

Waz here has some good suggestions smiley - smiley A journey into the Alternative Writing Workshop (AWW) at <./>RF5</.> will do a world of good for anyone, especially a prospective miner.

I have look at the other volunter scemes and this I think suits me the most. I like the idea of looking at the allternate writing workshop and taking the best ideas, and seeing what people come up with. The alternate writing worksop is were people have there best ideas beacause there is no rules.

Hi there smiley - smiley I'm Jodan - UG Ed in charge of volunteers...
But, I'm a bit busy today, so I'll be back later to give my speech. If you have some time, try spending some of it in the AWW commenting on entries while you're waiting so I can see what kind of miner you would be smiley - ok

Sorry for the delay, but the rush of the holiday season (returning items and knitting things, you know...) has squeezed my h2g2 time.

Okay, here goes nothing smiley - smiley

Well, the first task of a new recruit is to familiarize yourself with the scheme. A1092539 is an excellent resource, as are some of the pages it links to. The <./>UnderGuide</.> is a proud enterprise, and as a miner, you're more or less committing yourself to helping out this enterprise with two votes for entries in the Alternative Writing Workshop (AWW) <./>RF5</.> you like. As you've been sticking your toes in the AWW, that shouldn't be too hard at the start.

I suggest you read some of these pages - A4184516, A1150147, <./>RF5</.> (the words above the list of entries in review), A1092520 and some of the pages therein linked, if you have not already read them. If you have any questions, I'm sure I have some answers. After that, it's a simple matter of you emailing me at jodantaylor at gmail dot com so's I can send you an invite to the offsite forum.

However. I'm not actually supposed to rush this process like I am now. Slowing the recruitment process down is supposed to weed out those who aren't really interested in helping the UG. (I don't like that rule and I usually ignore it) So it'd be nice to know that you're really interested in h2g2's creative writing and the UG before we proceed with things.

Lastly, there are two rules of being a UG Volunteer that I tell everyone who applies for the job-
1. Don't take yourself too seriously.
2. See number one.

Tom -

The recruitment period for Miners and UnderGuide Volunteers in general is not currently operating. Jodan in his eagerness has jumped the gun a little. *slaps Jodan*

Just like all the other volunteer schemes in h2g2 (like the Scouts, Sub-Editors and ACES) the UnderGuide Volunteers have a recruitment drive whenever we lose a few of our Miners to reality etc. At this current time we aren't actually in dire need for anyone! (yes, believe it or not smiley - winkeye)

Feel free to keep posting to the AWW and I'm sure all the current UnderGuide Volunteers will provide you with feedback. That way you'll get more experience on how the scheme works and you feel whether you really want to commit. If you like, post with your opinions and so forth as if you WERE a Miner - but for the time being you won't have all the added extras (like the badge and access all areas pass smiley - ok) Then when the UG goes into recruiting phase again (probably UK SummerTime) we can see if you're still about and interested smiley - biggrin

smiley - ta for your interest, for the time being I suggest you keep contributing to the AWW (it helps out the UnderGuide) and make sure you floss. smiley - cheers

Hey there miraculousrandomness smiley - smiley. Great to have someone interested in mining and your application has been noted.

Listen though, I think it would be a good idea to get to know your way round h2g2 a bit more first - find your feet, get to know the threads of Peer Review, the Edited Guide, the Alternative Writing Workshop, the Post etc. Also to get to know the standards of entries required. Try reviewing, too.

h2g2's a confusing site, it takes time. It's worth it though.

I saw you had an entry in Peer Review. Putting in the work to get through PR and get selected for the Edited Guide - that's a great start.

So I'm going to ask you to give it a couple of months and just enjoying h2g2ing for that time, and then come back if you're still keen. That ok?

Waz

Hello, I would like to be a Miner! Are you accepting applications at the moment?

I usually pop over to the AWW and check things out fairly often, and I think I am capable of taking on the responsibility to get more involved, so I would love to help out. (Plus I get a pretty badge for my space, so it will make me look important. smiley - winkeye)
