Can I assume that the management are closing down the mines?
There hasn't been much mining activity for ages. Is it time for me to sing the 'Lonely Miner' 
song and tramp off into the sunset?

I'm don't think management can close down the mines exactly. Whether they've fallen down them is another matter.
Sorry you've had to keep going on your own for so long. I'll try to wake a few people up. But on no account is there to be singing of 'The Lonely Miner'.
Something rousing. A traditional Miners' morale-booster of some sort. 'Can You Feel It?' Or 'Boogie Wonderland' maybe.
