Della, He was a Disney creation right?
Lentilla, "when the reality is that *all* the Americans I know are scared s**tless about the current state of the government."
You say you hate blanket ststements but you make them yourself. Why not be honest and say you hate statements against anything american. Your statement is blindingly wrong or do you not count the americans on this site as "Americans I know"?
Empty, I'll do you one better for dangerous things to say. You say their fag makes a good blindfold. I say I've often wondered if those white marks are really stars.

"The flag represents the freedom – to burn the f*cking flag!"
- Bill Hicks
I miss Bill Hicks. But his comedy is still inspirational.
I can't imagine pledging allegiance to a flag each day at school, that seems really weird and fascistic to me. Making the Brownie promise was weird enough and you only did that once (to promise to do my duty to god, serve the queen and help other people - 2 outta3 aint but, but I'm serving the queen nuffink!)
But the pledgeing thing is all part of self identity, a national conditioning to a state of mind and of nationhood. Trouble with the states, as I see it, is the gulf between the dream and the reality, and the thin veneer of bullshit papering the gaping chasm between the two.
These guys (Hicks fans) came up with this kick ass alternative pledge:
F’Ugly’s Lemony-Fresh Pledge o’ Civil Disobedience
"i will not pledge allegiance to the f*cking flag of
the united states of mass-media, or to the corpocracy
for which it stands, one nation under censorsh*t, indigent, w/liberty & justice for the rich…"
http://www.fuglytheklown.com/contact-high.html
Bill Hicks said of George Bush senior "It's not that I disagree with Bush's economic policy or his foreign policy. But that I believe he was a child of Satan here to destroy the planet Earth."

While we're into quotes, one of my favourites comes from Ghandi. When asked what he thought of western civilisation he answered "I think it would be a good idea".

Not sure what you mean, App.

When I said something similar it started the famous conflict between me and starbirth.

Yes, like the Pirates of the Caribbean, on that ride. But he was malfunctioning even then!

Civilisation exists in little pockets here and there on our . When I was a child, I thought it synomymous with technology, but that ain't so...

Empty Sky (Remember me fondly.) Posted Jul 21, 2003
That's quite true. Civilisation doesn't necessarily lead to technology and vice versa.

Civilisation requires an absence of Libertarian power. Della will know what I mean from the "war in Iraq was just" thread.

"Civilisation requires an absence of Libertarian power."
I couldn't agree more. This world places too much emphasis on individual freedom, at the expense of society's needs. It's the scourge of the age, I'm afraid.

Mao Zedong, I assume you mean... What, are you hissing and getting out the garlic and the stakes, because you "taught you saw a puddytat?"Communist?

there are some great libertarian references at civfinatics.com
But you'd have to know the game to get them.
So according to starbirth, if you care for anything other than yourself then you're a communist?
That says alot

'So according to starbirth...'
I think with our starbirth, there is no 'according to'. He is a reactionary who inhabits this thread to stir stuff up for his own amusement. If you realise this, and see that he believes in nothing and says absolutely nothing of value in the conversation, you can come to ignore him happily. I advise people to do this.
This is the end of this public service announcement. Thank you.

Here is a translation
Don't try to bend the spoon, that would be impossible. Instead try to realise the truth...
What truth?
There is no spoon.

Bill Hicks... I haven't thought about him in a long time. He was brilliant. His humor was in the Dennis Leary style - harsh, yet very true.
I think he died of cancer early on - freakin' shame...

Hadn't seen this post... how long has it been, four weeks? The answer is no, actually - I don't even have any evidence that they are American. When you come down to it, you don't have any evidence that I'm American either! (except for my stubborn persistence to spell 'color' without a 'u.')
> You say their fag makes a good blindfold.
Heh... yeah, the problem is getting him to stay wrapped around your head and not comment on how awful your drapes are.

(I presume you mean Mao). Fortunately for the people of China, they've never had to contend with anything as bad as libertarianism.
