ALOUETTE

Alouette, gentille alouette,
Alouette, je te plumerai.
Je te plumerai la tete,
Et la tete, et la tete,
Alouette, alouette, oh-oh,

Alouette, gentille alouette,
Alouette, je te plumerai.
Je te plumerai le nez,
Et le nez, et le nez,
Alouette, alouette, oh-oh,

Alouette, gentille alouette,
Alouette, je te plumerai.
Je te plumerai les yeux,
Et les yeux, et les yeux,
Alouette, alouette, oh-oh,

Alouette, gentille alouette,
Alouette, je te plumerai.
Je te plumerai la bouche,
Et la bouche, et la bouche,
Alouette, alouette, oh-oh,

Alouette, gentille alouette,
Alouette, je te plumerai.
Je te plumerai les bras,
Et les bras, et les bras,
Alouette, alouette, oh-oh,

Alouette, gentille alouette,
Alouette, je te plumerai.
Je te plumerai les mains,
Et les mains, et les mains,
Alouette, alouette, oh-oh,

Alouette, gentille alouette,
Alouette, je te plumerai.
Je te plumerai les jambes,
Et les jambes, et les jambes,
Alouette, alouette, oh-oh,

Alouette, gentille alouette,
Alouette, je te plumerai.
Je te plumerai les pieds,
Et les pieds, et les pieds,
Alouette, alouette, oh-oh.

Revised version by my humble self...smiley - smiley

Found rather surprising mistakes on sites which were actually asking money in exchange of getting the lyrics [including mistakes] in a printable version [even so the song is a traditional one]...smiley - yikes for example, alouette became allouette for unknown reasons...smiley - whistle

The original version says "je te plumerais" instead of "je te plumerai"... but then the traduction would have to be "would pluck you" instead of "will pluck you"...smiley - biggrin

Enjoy...smiley - disco

I think there is another version of this song somewhere where each part that is going to be plucked is listed with the following one... for example "et les yeux, et la bouche, etc..." ["and your eyes, and your mouth, etc..."] but i didn't have much time to check as these last days i've been busy [on top of Real Life and w*rk] testing something for the BBCi Testers Group...

smiley - cool to see the French Connection visiting us...smiley - bubbly We even have a plug on their page [U201936]...smiley - disco

Opti... >je suis heureux< would be >je suis heureuse< as you're a girl/lady/female...smiley - smiley but, it's smiley - ok, i understood what you meant..

The gender thing in French is an headache when the language is not one's first language... Hopefully i will be able to give some tips soon...smiley - cool Just give me a chance to re-organise myself and we should be on the right track soon...smiley - biggrin

Hi everyone... Can't stay long... plus backlog is getting bigger everytime [got some names to add on lists... etc.. etc...]... so it might be my only post on this thread today...smiley - cry make the best of it...smiley - whistle

1 - un
2 - deux
3 - trois
4 - quatre
5 - cinq
6 - six
7 - sept
8 - huit
9 - neuf
10 - dix
11 - onze
12 - douze
13 - treize
14 - quatorze
15 - quinze
16 - seize

17 - dix-sept [think "ten-seven" if that helps]
18 - dix-huit [..... "ten-eight" ..............]
19 - dix-neuf [..... "ten-nine" ...............]

20 - vingt

smiley - disco

Not bad though... Kat, apart for trois [3] i have the feeling that the pronounciation would have been close enough to be understood...smiley - bubbly plus, the great thing is that us French do talk a lot with our hands so in a normal conversation in Real Life it would have been smiley - ok

[before anyone asks, i'm not good at putting prononciation in writing...smiley - biggrin]

Talk soon everyone.... A bientot....smiley - surfer

Hi Opti et Kat, smiley - smiley

vavavoom is just a made-up word that sounds like it goes 'vroum' (which *does* exist!). Vroum is an onomatopoeic word that describes the sound cars make; possibly related to the verb 'vrombir', meaning 'to throb' in the way that engines do. smiley - smiley

btw, you're Ecossaise, not 'Eccosaise', smiley - winkeye. An easy way to remember whether you need a single or double 's' is by the pronunciation - if it's a 'soft s' like in 'Ross', then it's double; if it's a 'hard s' like in 'does', then it's a single.

Course, you need to know the pronunciation for that to be of any help! smiley - biggrin

Salut Kat, smiley - smiley

usually you can't translate such phrases directly, ie word for word.

For instance, raining cats and dogs can be 'il pleut comme vaches qui pissent' - "raining like cows p**sing"!
