Une patinoire it is...
Hi Opti, Lou and kat...
I will try to post on a more regular basis in the future... even if it's only one post a day it will still be something...
kat... yep.. ask away.. no problem... between the three of us we should be able to come up with some answers... that will help with my mondays tutoring as well as then i will have something to start the lesson with [i'm very good at improvising but it's always better to have something ready..] as i could look at some of the subjects/queries we've dealt with and elaborate from there... It's what i've done this week... well, ok it was from something i printed from the BBCi French pages [which i will add the links to on the Help Desk page soon]... there were only around ten short sentences on it but we got a good two hours lesson out of it... hehe..
I'm doing quite a lot of research on how to teach French at the moment... so any interesting findings, you guys will be the first to know about it...
I also had a try at the online translation from Google... Asked it to translate my space in French... the results were more than disappointing, even their mistakes were not consistent... Would that be an idea for an h2g2 kind of French lesson?!... I could point out the mistakes and explain how it would come out if the Google's French version was translated in English and how different/incomprehensible my space would be after that... I might have to not name Google though..
So, yes?!... no?!... I could do the work offline [and quicker] as i managed to find the link for the Guidepost which allows us to write an entry in GuideMl offline [link to be posted asap if needed].. Shame that only PC owners can download it, not sure if the local libraries would agree with downloading programs on their computers unfortunately...
Anyway, that was my first posting to this page for today [2:56am on the clock]... not exactly about French but then again there were some references about it....
Talk soon everyone...

Merci beaucoup Loup, Lou and Opti. I have just received the outline of the course yesterday and I have a book to get but luckily I will not have to have it for the first lesson wich will give me time to order it from our local WH Smitths.
Opti and Lou ice skating, I have done my leg in.

And then "Au Point" for year 12, and now "Boule De Suif" for my year 13 literature text

None of these books are in my collection...
Never mind... I'm sure we will cope somehow...
Oh and, i've managed to make my PC even more poorly than usual... memory problem somewhere [the PC's one not mine...] which doesn't allow me to be more than half an hour online without freezing... Still better than yesteday as then it was just five minutes []...
But i will still pop in as much as i can...
Now, to make my posting as French related as possible, just a little point: today is aujourd'hui... ce jour would be more this day... though it was easy to understand what was meant there... so it's
Talk soon everyone...

The French Connection Posted Sep 16, 2003
Salut tout le monde,
Just droppin' by to say, 'Salut' (as the more astute among you will already have noticed, )
I'm a brit living in France, happy to talk about all things French or France-related, . I'm gonna subscribe to this main page, and probly over at the Language thing, too.
Regarding your use of 'ce jour', jedi, In most cases where English uses 'today', French will use >>Aujourd'hui<<. I know it's a b***er to remember how to spell, , but that's the word.
One tip on remembering where the apostrophe goes: think if it as >>on-the-day-of today<<, where 'on-the-day-of' is all one word. It's just the last bit that is tagged on.
Or is that just complicating matters?
Alors, n'hesitez pas à me poser des questions (punctual replies not promised, but efforts will be made, )
