Yes thanks French connection for how many years have you known french?

assez longtemps! 7 ans à l'école, puis 4 ans de fac (dont un en France), et là, ça fait 4 ans que j'habite en France. (quite a while! 7 years at school, 4 at uni (1 of which was spent in France), and I've lived in France for 4 years now)

Mais ne désesperez pas! j'avais déjà un (relativement) bon niveau avant la fac, grace à 8 mois où j'ai travaillé à Paris (à 18 ans). On apprends le plus en passant du temps dans le pays. (But don't despair! I had already attained a (relatively) good level before i got to uni, thanks to 8 months working in Paris between school and uni. The best way to learn is to spend time in France.

Une bonne phrase pour 'pigs might fly' serait 'Quand les poules auront des dents' (a good phrase for 'les cochons pourraient voler' , would be 'When chickens grow teeth')

Je dois dire que j'en ai marre de traduire chaque phrase ici! (I've gotta say that i'm getting fed up of translating every phrase here!)

j'ai passe 3 fois en france sur les french exchanges mais j'ai fais du ski en france aussi dans les alpes. pour beaucoup d'annees on apprhendre le francais et j'aime aider les autres gens qui apprhendre le francais. je suis totalement en accord avec ton idee que c'est plus facile apprhendre le francais quand on habite la. un autre phrase est ouvrir les yeux avec les alumettes ou quelque chose comme ca

I am sorry that I am bothering you Fr + but I am the only one here. I have responsibilties of being a full-time carer looking after my eldrly parents and I could not just leave them to go and live in France. I also on very limited income and I would not even afford the journey let alone the accommodation costs. I am also on medication and the costs of living there would be alot. All help that is given is voluntary. Just imagine if there were more enquiries from other researchers.

By the way all help that is given here is voluntary. No-one is forcing you to come here and give assitance. I was always told that people will always be happy to help. It does not seem so. No-one wonder that are not other researchers here coming here for help in their French studies. I am slow at learning but hard working student and I have always have tried my best at anything I do. I have had the same attitude from tutors when I was at school, if I could not understand anything they did not want to help but the brighter pupils were the always the ones that got the tutors attention. I am 40 years of age and French Connection I find your comments very hurtful as you are inferring that I am lazy and not trying to learn the language. By the way I am 40 years of age and I am not academic and I do not learn things as quick as others.

I wonder if anyone could help me in Star Trek the Next Generation Captain Jean-Luc Picard visits his brother and their family at their family vineyard. When Jean-Luc Picard gets in a fight with his brother in the vineyard and starts sliding in the mud Jean-Luc starts to hum a French song along with his brother. It goes like this har dar de har dar, duddy duddy dah. Can anyone recognise the tune?

I have done 3 french exchanges but I've also done skiing in the alps. for lots of years i have learnt french and i like the other people who learn french. i am totally in agreement with your idea that its easy to learn french when living there. another phrase is open your eyes with matches or something like that

Opti it is easier if you are young, healthy and have no responsibilities and with good academic qualifications. I cannot go to France as I am full-time carer for my parents and I have medication for my epileptic condition. I have never been to university and would never get an exchange at the age 40 and I have no 'A' levels. These exchanges are for university students and I am not an university student. So I am very restricted on how I can learn to speak French. Also I have no-one to practice with and I am a very slow learner.
