>> What was I doing in Trieste in Italy in the first place?. <<
I don’t know, I wasn’t there.
I might ask why one of my mates got killed in an ambush in Oman in 1972 in war nobody knew about? Why did three other mates get blown to smithereens while simply enjoying a drink in a bar one night? Why did I get my front teeth knocked out while trying to stop one group of people from ripping the guts out of another?
I know the answers to those questions because I was there.

"I have said my piece a lot of postings ago and I am still awaiting someone explaining to me why I lost my leg in 1948 :-3 years after the war was over .
What was I doing in Trieste in Italy in the first place?."
What were you doing in Trieste in Italy? And how did you lose your leg? Both serious questions btw....

Stuart I never said you were - in fact I specifically said that lots of people say it.

I don’t remember anyone say that going to war with Germany in 1914 was wrong. I suggested that it was justified on the grounds that Britain was honouring treaty obligations. This way in reply to your assertion that going to war when you yourself are not threatened is always wrong. There are occasions when it is justified even though you yourself are not threatened.
“ Indeed, If they want to depose their leader ,they can do so by themselves from within. “
Oh if things were only so simple. Just way the Russian’s did to Stalin or the German’s did to Hitler or the Cambodian’s did to Pol Pot. Stalin died of old age. Hitler shot himself and Pol Pot was deposed with the help of the Vietnamese. Non of them were deposed from within.

In the only slightly longer term though, it is also unlikely he will get to change the nature of his office and therefore remain in it beyond the normal period. There is still some difference between countries with that sort of electoral system and those without. However, one still has to take into account the power behind the scenes...
There is some parallel with the BBC here, in that this petition never did have a realistic chance of changing high up policy in the short term (ie the probable duration of this particular crisis). The people in power are not exactly elected officials. However, it does provide useful evidence of popular opinion and alternative solutions which might be taken into account next time there is an incident where the temptation is for the bosses to simply censor and control everything. The non-h2g2 powers-that-be have demonstrated before that they are susceptible to some public pressure, eg viewing figures. The h2g2 staff would then be the advocates for the users of the site. In an odd way this is even part of protecting their corner of the BBC from external interference. The divisions within a big organisation can be very territorial and competitive.

No reason why they should. Bush didn't gain power nor does he hold onto it using murder, terror and torture. Stalin, Hitler and Pol Pot did not to mention others.

To Naugen Amoeba
I was posted to Trieste as part of a United Nations Peace keeping force cide name BETFOR. (British Element Trieste Forces) For whatever reason we were there has never been expained to me .All we seemed to be was a sort of police force .British and American forces ,but who or why we were policing I have no idea.
As to the loss of my leg. One day when doing my duty as a driver of a jeep ,I was going along our barracks perimiter when the jeep went over a land mine which blew up under me ,causing multiple injuries ,including fractured skull, both arms broken, my groin area being pretty well smashed up ,causing a blood clot to form in my thigh which was the primary cause of my amputation.
My pelvis too was fractured quite severely meaning I was in plaster for three months .
My injuries were so severe ,the Army sent for my father and brought him over to see me ,(to probably bury me ,they told him).
All in all,I remained in hospital for over a year.
I hope this answers your queries .
