42 watts is a very weak light, baout the same light we may get from a star 42000 light years away.
The true Reason (The real one)
Fred Flintstone Posted Jul 2, 1999
The reason is in the book - it's the answer to the ultimate question of "what is 6 times 9?". Although at first it may appear to be the wrong answer, there is a perfectly logical reason for this: You have 3 fingers missing. (Or in my case, as I am after all a cartoon character, 5 fingers missing.)

I didn't think you needed a round of drinks
I thought you lived in the Lake of Bliss
Or the Moat of G and T
I am stupid enough to be talking about this
Davion Q/93 Posted Jul 2, 1999
Let's just point out the obvious.
What's the most obvious thing in the Universe?
Ummmm...............
Oh I dunno, maybe it's 42.
The true Reason (The real one)
Smiley Ben Posted Jul 4, 1999
Erm... I was under the impression that if we ever knew the question and the answer at the same time the universe would change completely so that they no longer correlated...
The true Reason (The real one)
Fluke Posted Jul 4, 1999
Maybe it's already happened, as multiple people have quoted before.

Obscure Posted Jul 5, 1999
Do we really want to know the answer. I mean by the time we have found out, either the question or the answer, the chance are that, life the univers and everything, will have passed us by, therefore negating the reason why we were looking in the first place.
Smiley Ben.
Artretia Dent Posted Jul 5, 1999
Hi, now that you're actually talking about the answer, I'm gonna change the subject and talk about something that happened a while ago.
Smiley Ben, dit you want to get kicked in a friendly way again, or did you want me to do *THAT* again?
And why did you get kicked for patting me on the head. ( which hurt me, BTW)?
Smiley Ben.
Smiley Ben Posted Jul 5, 1999
AAAAAAAAH!!!
I've never been a subject before!!!
This is very scary!!!
Anyway - as to kicking - only if you want to!
Smiley Ben.
Artretia Dent Posted Jul 5, 1999
You can be my subject anytime.
You must have a screwed up nervous system if you thought *that* was a kick!
Smiley Ben.
Smiley Ben Posted Jul 5, 1999
Does anyone else thing Art. and I might be mildly flirting with each other?
And as to the kick, this is something women will NEVER learn. Okay. If you kick a bloke there it hurts. A lot. However hard you kick.
Can we get back to the original subject?
Davion Q/93 Posted Jul 10, 1999
If anybody ever finds out what the Universe is for,
and why it is here, it will instantly vanish and be replaced by something even more bizarrely inexplicable.
Now, I think this has already happened, so the Universe that we are
living in now is only here because some smarty-pants off somewhere
discovered the purpose of a previous Universe.
Oh no--what have I done??
Booooooiiiiirrrrpppp....
Kzzzaazzzoooozzzaaaazzzzziiiiiiiittttt!!!!
Groan.
Can we get back to the original subject?
Smiley Ben Posted Jul 12, 1999
Erm... read '42... which is...' - that's the long one!
Can we get back to the original subject?
Davion Q/93 Posted Jul 14, 1999
In this new Universe, 42 is the longest name in the Universe.
Can we get back to the original subject?
Swiv (decrepit postgrad) Posted Jul 14, 1999
does that make mine the shortest?
Can we get back to the original subject?
Smiley Ben Posted Jul 14, 1999
What are these people on???
... sorry... is that rude?
