Graveyards are cool. You've really explained a lot. Graveyards are cool. They're always so peaceful and quiet. I don't see how people could see them as scary or evil - excepting circumstances in which there is a heavy fog, unidentified & tortured moaning, heavy footsteps behind you, no moon, broken headstones that look like the claws of those dead beseeching the heavens, mausoleum doors swinging open, freshly broken earth above the graves, & flickering shadows. THEN they'd be scary.

heh, many people have different views on the dead. Many people dont like cemetary's 'cause they remind people of death/mortality. Other's feel that visiting/tresassing on graveyards without actually a purpose to honor a particular person disrespectfull to the dead.
Also associations with ghosts and mosters with graves, especcially during halloween, could have children associate graveyards with evil, having the ideas carry to adulthood.
I dont think anyone is right/wrong. I just thought another veiwpoint needed to be seen. Hopefully to clear up any confusion.

Thank you for a reasonable posting, Tube, which is lacking the overgeneralisations that seem to abound in these discussions.
I'd also like to point out that most of this forum seems to be a repeat of discussions I've heard elsewhere - the URL vampire.org springs to mind, but I'm not sure if that whas where the bulk of it came from.
Has anyone else heard the term 'babybat'? It may just be a local colloquialism that means the same as 'perkygoff' (goff, perky goth, etc), but a little more derisive.

Thanks!
I guess I gathered a lot of experience from explaining it to a lot of people around me.
No, I've never been to vampire (at least not that I can remember now). Have a look at the "Copyright"-thread here, it'll tell you where a lot of the stuff came from. Other bits and pieces accumulated in my brain over the years from reading newspaper articles and stuff.
Baby? Nah, never heard of that. But then again this is Germany . I might go and ask some foreign Goths at this year's WGT .

You talk about non-gothicness as if its an affliction.

Well, what makes you think so? Goth is just another way of looking at life. Admittedly the one I prefer. (See the "good but biased" thread)

Did I answer your question to your satisfaction?

i want to say some words about yours:
1. we can be cheerfull. usually not in public, but if we are "goth between goth". ok, i only know goths in germany, and there are differences ... in the north eg in hamburg they are more the sad, more in the south they are more cheerfull. this is of course my specific expirience.
some words from WGT: "are you from munic?" "yes. why?" "you are laughing so much."
i think, this explains some of the differences between regions.
2. "pain could be beautifull" vs "non-violent":
the only agressive violence i observed in the goth-scene was one who was very stoned. one among several hundreds. the goth-scene in general is non-violent.
pain can be of course be beautifull. if the recipient want to feel the pain. the agreement between two people is essential, like SM.

He can't eat mine ... I've been dead for 263 years by now...
From the stuff s/he posts all over the guide (F71534?thread=127132&skip=20&show=20#p1818805 post 24) I should expect that we won't be graced by hir presence much longer...
