Everyone out there in h2g2 land may like to know there is a brand spanking (sound of spanking in the distance) new Discworld novel coming out in November called "Night Watch". Obviously, I'm not going to tell everyone what it's about, but if you do want to find out, check "[Unsuitable link removed by Moderator]" and they'll tell you if you're nice enough.

Oh damn. Ok, this might be considered a spoiler, but here goes. Sam Vimes, commander of the Ankh-Morpork Watch, is propelled back in time. I don't really want to say anymore, but i'm sure if you looked around the internet, you'd find out.

Having slogged through the backlog I can't find any mention of the second Science of Discworld novel - The Globe. First saw it in an ad in the back of The Truth, I think. It's about the wizard's Roundworld at the time of Shakespeare, and tends to focus more on societies/languages/art/stories rather than 'hard' science (physics and chemistry). I got a hardcover version for $45 Australian, whatever that is in England (fifteen pounds?)

Just finished reading NightWatch, it's really very good. But then what did you expect? Still waiting for Science 2 to come out in paperback so it matches my Science 1 (bit daft but there you go)

Anyone know if the Discworld A-Z is gonna be updated anytime soon. The last edition was way back when after No. 20 in the series (the name eludes me and I can't be bothered to check, hog-something) We're now on 25 or 26 i think.

Um, latest book is Nightwatch. It's a wierd time travel thingy with Sam Vimes. And it's bloody good. Not many laugh out loud bits, but still good.

I thought there were some brilliant bits in the new one, ok, they weren't funny, but the rivalry between Vimes and Carcer had a good pay-off and reading about a young Nobby Nobbs was hilarious.

Yeah, for some reason I liked the convo between Downey and Vetinari. At least we now have proof that he did train in the Assassins Guild.

Nightwatch was brilliant.. Nobbie Nobbs was very funny, and it was great to find out how the characters were like when they were younger. The young Vetinari was especially interesting to read about.

Personally I found Night Watch a little dissapointing. To me the book left me with the feeling that it had been rushed out for the Christmas market at the expense of the humour in it . Although it neatly tied up some story lines and plots from earlier I did not have the feel a a finished item , in the manner that the Theif of Time did.
Also another moan , as Terry has developed the discworld series he has slowly removed the one line foot notes that I always found so amusing in the earlier books. Please Terry bring them back.

I feel that while TP's books have become a lot less flippant since the beginning of the series, they have become a lot more complex and subtle. They've changed but they're still brilliant, IMHO.
I also made my girlfriend a TP convert recently...
