A Conversation for The Bible - a Perspective

wot about the feet??

It's bad 2 put small things in your mouth.

U didn't mention the feet. A little known fact about the Bible is that every time it says feet it means balls for example Ruth 3 verse 4. no wonder the deciples were upset when Mary washed Jesus' feet.

That was most enlightening!

Did you also know that when they talk about the "heart", they really mean the "bowels"?

Washing another person's feet 2,000+ years ago was a sign that you were a servant... someone who regarded him/herself as lower than the person they were attending to.

That's why it was a big deal when Jesus would stoop to wash someone else's feet... it meant he was saying he was a servant. It completed the metaphor that he was sent by God to serve mankind, both by ministering to it as well as dying for it.

Washing someone else's feet back then was a big deal, and a common part of everyday culture (one wonders if people were perhaps less ticklish then? smiley - winkeye)

Yes Jesus did wash feet, He washed his disciples feet. Thus telling them to be important, is to serve others.

Where am I getting my info? Uhm, a couple of sources... info related to my being a Christian as well as a course in religion I had in college.

And if you read the Bible, you can pick up a lot from tone and context.

" A little known fact about the Bible is that every time it says feet it means balls for example Ruth 3 verse 4. no wonder the deciples were upset when Mary washed Jesus' feet."

That has got to be one of the stupidest things I ever heard.
"feet" mean "feet"

There were two reasons this upset the desciples:
1) She was a whore and they didn't understand that Jesus was here to save the likes of her.

2) What she washed His feet in cost the about the same as an average year's wage. Judas thought it would be better to sell it and fed the poor(or steal the money in his case)

This is all my fault! tee hee a one of my friends who happens to be a minister told me about the feet meaning balls, she has now changed what she said to "In the old testament feet mean balls." eg in ruth. huh! I still think that there is more to the bible than meets the eye.smiley - winkeye

Hi 218612, where in the bible does it say Mary Magdalene was a whore, I'm contantly amazed that this piece of christian propoganda is "quoted" time after time with no one bothering to rebuff it. Mary was possessed of 7 devils whatever that means. Nowhere in the bible does it call her a whore that is just a Pauline interpolation to cover the fact of her marriage to JC. Regards, Yossarian

As soon as I read these i reached for my Bible only to find that i had moved it from it's place by my Keyboard. And when I found it (Half an Hour later) I looked up the story of Mary and Jesus. I could not find the place where Mary had the 7 devils / demons but I found some other interesting things.

Matthew 26- 6:13 the woman who anoints Jesus is unnamed.
In Mark the unnamed woman annoints Jesus' head.
I cannont find it in Luke (please tell me where it is)
And in John May annoints Jesus on his feet with pure nard (please can anyone explain?)

Hi Bad, you didn'tlook too hard it's in Luke 8:2, but if as I suspect you looked it up in Crudens'Concordance it is famous for not being listed. Nard is an abbreviation of Spikenard an expensive ointment with a musky odour used as a perfume in ancient times. Regards, Yossarian.

Hi again!
Whats your favourite part of the Bible? Mine is Revelations 22. is your favourite book is Catch 22?

Hello Bad, I have no favourite part of the Bible it's all a bunch of drivel to me, but it's not just Christianity I'm anti the other two desert religions have also got a lot to answer for. I like to be able to quote the bible because it's best to "know thine enemy". Matthew 16:28 always keeps them on the hop. Yes, Catch 22 is my favourite novel, there are more truths printed there than in most of your holy books. If we all lived by the "Golden Rule" this could be a really nice place no need for religion or those money-raking priests. Regards, Mike.

Know thine enemy has always been too hard for me. Im never one for reading holy books although there is always something you can learn from. I agree Catch 22 has many truths and it has been a good friend to me since i frist read it, even if it was only to be able to confuse my friendssmiley - winkeye

Hi Kaytee, Bad is good but Kaytee is better, I see by your accent you're from the North I'm from the deep South, Hampshire in fact. I figure all books are holy, some are more holy than others(In the beginning was the WORD). As far as I can see religion is the only thing that differentiates mankind from the other animals, tool use, communication & even humour can be observed in other animals. The wise, wise man(Homo Sapiens Sapiens) should be Homo Sapiens Religiosa for man made god in his own image & being the loving tolerant creature that he is went on to invent Inquisitions, Crusades, Jihad, Fatwahs & the like.

Regards, Mike.
