Like, for example, Alice Springs (which is pretty much in the absolute centre of Australia, surrounded in every direction by hundreds of miles of desert).

I'd be very ill, mostly.
Seriously.
After I swim for a half hour or 45 minutes, it feel great to sit in the whirlpool for a few minutes - but since it's usually about 105F, I can't take it for more than about 5 minutes before I'm beet red all over and feel like I'm boiling.

Quite a few years ago I stayed overnight in a motel in central Australia which has no airconditioning and no heating whatsoever. The temperature during the day had reached about 45 C (110ish F), but this motel managed (and I believe still manages) to maintain a steady temperature of around 23 C (75 F). The reason is quite simple - the motel is dug into the side of a hill in the town of Coober Pedy.
So my advice to you, Lady Scott, would be to go out and buy a hill and dig yourself a luxurious home in the side of it. Your heating bill for the year would be nothing and you don't need any of those fan-dangled air conditioners.

Just like Mammoth Cave in Kentucky ... it has a year-round steady temperature of 53 degrees Fahrenheit as does *every* place on earth that's sufficiently underground.
I thought the entire town of Coober Pedy was built inside an old mine ... completely underground. I saw something about it on a Paddington Bear cartoon, of all things.

It's not completely underground, there's a petrol (gas) station, supermarket, pub, various other shops and quite a few "houses" on the surface, but most things are dug into the side of the hillocks. Don't know where the idea that it was built inside an old mine might have come from, that certainly isn't the case.

Well then, they lied.
*shrug*
I wouldn't want to live in the Bahamas, Michele. I like it here in Ohio where the bitterly-cold winter weather kills off all the big nasty bugs, biting insects and Australians. Helps to keep the place decent.

It's not everywhere that you can find live fish in the parking lot! Only in beautiful Ohio.
You're just jealous, coz all you have is steak in Kansas City, Michele. We have steak too (in addition to our other multitudes of delights) on accounta we have an 'Outback' Steakhouse.

Well, we're *all* jealous of Ohio! Ah, the Buckeye State! With it's majestic burning rivers, it's parking lot fish, and it's silly accent ...
