Sunday

We went to church this morning. There was a very powerful sermon by the Arch Deacon of Cornwall. He said among other things that we should not be afraid of admitting we were Christians. I realised that I have in these journals always written I went to see A the V which is my code for Alan the vicar. I go to church every Wednesday morning if it is possible, and we go to some Sunday services. Why do I go? Because it is what I am used to. I am sure that I am not a good man but I do the best I can, and being reminded of how I should try to live my life is a good thing for me. The Boss said after the service that if we were Muslim we would be proud of our faith and Christians always seem to be ashamed of theirs. We talked about all the harm that religion of all types does to the human condition and decided that the problem was the way the message of the prophets had been perverted by men not the message itself.
We went to the Lamb and Flag for lunch it was very good but much more expensive than our usual haunts.
We drove back along the coast road through St Ives and Zennor.
I took some photographs it was so lovely.
On the Pz by pass the trees are the most amazing colours. Every colour of Autumn possible. Golden, red, brown, green and yellow, all there. Such a sight.

Saturday

a quiet morning just sitting around reading the papers and chatting. After lunch off to Big W to start Christmas shopping. I love itsmiley - biggrinbuying stuff for the kids really gives me a buzz. It is one of the perks of being a grandpa spoiling the little ones. The store was packed. Cornwall is supposed to be one of the poorest parts of the country. No sign of that today.
The Olympian's girl ex girl friend 'phoned and was on for an hour and later on The Finns widow rang and she was on for nearly an hour and now The Boss has just rung The Best Friend who has leukemea and I expect she will be on for an hour.smiley - doh

Friday

Our village is being 'regenerated'and what a mess they are making of it. At this time of the year the village should be much quieter. The tourists have gone and we should be settling into a peaceful autumn. However there are diggers and forklifts all over the place. Parts of the car park have been fenced off. Cars are parking on the roads there is muck and mud everywhere. For the first time in fifty years I wished I lived somewhere else today. This has been going on for weeks now and it is horrible.
The Boss and I did some work around the house this morning. I spent this afternoon getting some poems on to this P.C. and chucking the paper away. When all the poems are on I shall start on the short stories and then try to get it all on discs. That will clear some cupboard space. One of the poems I turned up I wrote when I was twenty one nearly fifty years ago. It was for The Boss and a bit sentimental but I quite like it.
The Son's wife came in asusual, and I went to the library but apart from that not much has happened.
Again it has been sun and rain, on and of and a bit colder.

ROAD HOG

It says SLOW DOWN and I could.
'THIRTY' marked on the road
and on poles at the side
tell me I should.
But sometimes I take the risk
of just ignoring the signs,
and drive through.
Hoping that serious men in a car
would speed after me,
and I, ignoring signs and lines
would outpace them.
Is this
a risk
too far?

He may have to have his toenail off later.smiley - sadface
