Dancing 2

We settled down to watch Strictly Come Dancing. And with the very first dance we didn't know whether to laugh or cry so we did a bit of both.
The song was 'Lady In Red' and it brought back both happy and sad memories for us.
When The Lost Boy was fifteen he fell madly in love( as you do at that age) with a girl who was here on holiday with her parents. They saw each other every day for a week and he couldn't wait to get out of the house each morning to see her and came home each night on a high and would not stop talking about her. This lasted for about eight days. One morning he was home about five minutes after he left. Slammed in the house ran upstairs slammed his bedroom door and then there was silence. After a while The Boss suggested I go up and see what the matter was. When I went in his room he was sitting on the edge of his bed with tears streaming down his face. His 'Great Love 'had dumped him. One of his 'friends' had tod her he was fifteen. Apparently she was sixteen and he had said he was seventeen. She dropped him because she said he was too young. 'Their Song' was Lady In Red and for days afterwards he shut himself in his room playing the dam thing over and over till we were sick of it. So one day The Boss said 'I've had enough of this' so she had a word with his young brother and being a good sport brother put on one of his mum's dresses, bright red of course, smothered his face with bright red lipstick and sashayed into The Lost Boy's bedroom. We crept up behind to see the reaction holding our breath. There was a moments silence and then a huge burst of laughter.
The record was switched off and the two boys were rolling on the bed in hysterics. It was a calculated risk as the boys sometimes did not get on too well. There was only 11 months betwen them and quite a bit of sibling rivalry but this day their natural good humour came to the fore.
That is why The Lady In Red can make The Boss and I both happy and sad.

Into town this morning to pick up my new specs. They are pretty smart and The Boss thinks they make me look 'cool'smiley - wow
After lunch we went to the feast sale at Pendeen. I sold my golf clubssmiley - wah and the church benefited by it and I am pleased that I don't have to keep looking at them knowing I can't play anymore.smiley - sadface
We spent some time there talking to old friends and catching up on their news.
This is St. Just Feast week end. It is a bit like Christmas without the presents. St. Just folk who have moved away come home from all over the world this week end. It is a real family time.
There is a clay pigeon shoot, a local derby football match and a rugby match with a visiting team. The local 'notables' process to church tomorrow led by Pendeen silver band. After the service almost everyone goes to the pub, gets falling down p****d and then go home to 'The Feast' It is a week end of eating and drinking. The Boss and I will have the children all day tomorrow so that The Son and his wife can spend the day with their friends. We will take them out for lunch and to a park somewhere(if the weather is good enough)
Today has been really sunny and quite warm, the sea has calmed down and the mess from the storms has mostly been cleared up.

Friday

The storm has gone.
The Boss and the son's wife went off for the day shopping and I had the three youngest for the day.
I took them into Pz. and we went on the prom to see the damage. Parts of the sea wall had been broken off and were scattered all over the pavement There was seaweed every where and the council had a tractor out clearing it from the prom.
I took them to Mc.D's for lunch then we went to Pendeen park for a couple of hours. It stayed dry and the sun came out for a short time.
While we were out the children used my camera to take pics. Some of them came out really well.
We came home and played cards till the ladies came back, loaded with shopping of course.
The Boss was very tired but she enjoyed herself and that's the main thing.
A good day!

Thursday

The storm is still raging and I still have my trees standingsmiley - wow
The promenade in Pz is taking another battering and when I looked out this afternoon Longships was being swamped again.
Still we are fortunate, safe and warm and high enough not to get flooded.smiley - biggrin
The Son's wife came in this afternoon. She and The Boss are going to Truro tomorrow with the girls. I have the boys for the day.smiley - yikes They are going to have to come to the barbers with me so I hope they behave. After that I shall try and find something fun for us to do.
I spent a couple of hours working. I have a thing to write about a Rembrant painting it's a start to the next part of my O.U.course.
The problem is I do the work on the computer and I keer popping into hootoo so work that should take about an hour takes twosmiley - doh
I have started to re read Jayne Eyre, I had forgotten what a superb piece of writing it is. The Olympian's girl friend rang, she is hoping to come to Cornwall when he does. I am not sure that is a good idea. last time they were here together they bickered too much.smiley - cross

Wednesday

The storm hit us last night and has been increasing in ferocity by the hour. I went to Pendeen this morning and had quite a struggle to walk along the church path. The noise inside the church was horrendous with the slates on the roof rattling to beat the band.
In spite of the weather I drove to Pz for lunch as usual.
The sea was coming over the promenade and the wind made it impossible to walk on the prom. This evening the spring tides combined with the high tide have broken part of the sea wall in Penzance and some of the houses are flooded. Newlyn and Mousehole have sea water on the streets but not in the houses at the last report.
I quite expect to lose a tree or two as they are swaying around like crazy at the moment. This village is high up so we have no fear of flooding but we quite expect the road to Pz to be underwater in places tomorrow as it is raining heavily and the water runs off the fields into the road.
I moved many of the pots in the garden yesterday which is just as well. This evening they would all be rolling around the everywhere.
We have had a few flickers with the electricity supply so candles are lit just in case we lose it all together.
Porthleven and Flushing are badly flooded and people are being moved out of their home according to the T.V. news.
