Spent the weekend at my brother's in Williamsport, Pennsylvania where we managed to get in two rounds of golf at the county-owned course there.
We played the 'Vintage' course on Friday, which is the course my brother always plays. Then on Saturday we played the 'Challenge' course which neither of us had ever tried before.
Oddly, I played better on the Challenge as it required more strategic thinking than the grip-it and rip-it layout of the Vintage.
This was the first time I've ever gone away from home for a night without having some type of work-related reason. It was fun, but I really missed the X-family back at home...

We took the children around our neighbourhood begging for candy.
Our eldest was dressed as Ginny Weasley from the Harry Potter books and the youngest was dressed as a blue unicorn (very cute!). I was dressed as a doctor, complete with surgical scrubs and a stethoscope. Mrs X did not dress up.
Which resulted in one of those classic married couple conversations when I came downstairs in my gear:
'You're not in your costume?'
'That's because I'm not wearing one.'
'Then why am I wearing one?'
'Because you are.'
'Oh, alright then. Off we go...'

Today, we drove from the hotel up to the National Aviary in Pittsburgh.
What a great place that was! Huge rooms to simulate tropical rain forests with sprinklers that simulated actual rainstorms, birds flying all around, and strange species with colors that I didn't know existed in nature.
The girls had a great time and we spent hours and hours there walking around and trying to spy all the different birds.
It probably deserves a EG entry of its own...

The X family made its annual autumnal trek to the mountains of southwest Pennsylvania.
The weather broke and we were able to fully enjoy the sights of Ohiopyle State Park (A1082549) which is one of our favourite places on earth. Then we checked into a hotel and went up the mountain to one of our favourite restaurants (A292664).

The eldest daughter made her big debut on the football field, playing her flute at halftime during the high school's football game.
All of our school district's fifth-graders (from five schools) get together on this night to play a couple of songs and then march off to allow the middle school and high school band to take the field.
It's nice to see music elevated to this level in our public schools. And she did a great job marching and playing.
