First day of school for the little ones...
My eldest is entering fifth grade and the little one is a first-grader this year!
That means that both will be away at school all day now. They're well on the way to being grown I reckon.

Is it a sign of my current apathy that my sixth h2-versary passed without a comment or a glimmer of recognition?
Or is it that I'm completely swamped between w*rk and real life obligations and I just missed it?
Possibly a combination of the two...

After surviving a week of meetings, we all took a half-day off work today to go play golf together.
More team-building and bonding, except since we were technically on vacation we could drink beer and cuss and let down our hair.
I played fairly well for never being on this course before, but my partner and I became particularly adept and speeding our cart toward a ball on the ground and scooping it up without slowing down.
I even managed to win a prize for hitting my tee shot on a 165-yard par three closest to the pin! My shot didn't go anywhere near where I wanted it to, but it landed pin-high and took a funny bounce right at the flag.
I guess sometimes it really is better to be lucky than good...

This whole week we're having administrative meetings to discuss the course of our school system and the steps we need to take to meet new state and federal requirements while still educating our kids.
Yes it is as brutal as it sounds.
Today we started things off with a team-building exercise. After quite a lot of dread, it turned out to be quite fun. All 30 of us got in canoes and paddled down the Susquehanna River. It turned out to be an all-day exercise as we went 5 miles downstream. But since the river is a mile wide and we crossed it from bank to bank a bunch of times, I reckon we probably paddled closer to 8 or 9 miles.
It was a great day. Hot and sunny, but it was really fab to be down on the water and just being able to commune with the river.

My grandmother celebrated her 100th birthday today!
We had a little family get-together at my parents' house topped off with a big ice cream cake.
She insisted that no fuss be made about her turning 100 which seems a shame, but she's still the boss.
It's amazing to think of all that has transpired in the past century. She's still in pretty good shape both mentally and physically and lives in her own house. She only stopped driving last year!
Our ancestors went over the mountains to settle in southwestern Pennsylvania about 200 years ago in a covered wagon and she's been alive for half of that time. Pretty amazing stuff...
