Happy New Year!
The X family spent a quiet night at home and rang in the new year rather in the living room rather than at one of the many 'drops' which dot the region.
It did make the next morning a bit easier to deal with. We then dined on pork and sauerkraut for good luck and good fortune.

We survived.
My eldest is officially a 'tween-ager' - halfway between childhood and adolescence. She and four of her friends had a sleep-over at our house.
They ate loads of food, played board games, danced and watched movies and went to bed at midnight. Then they woke us up terrified because the timer shut off the X-mas lights outside at 12:30.
The youngest and I hid upstairs and played cards after a bit and left the long-suffering Mrs X to deal with them and their weird antics.
I'm just glad we lived to tell the tale.

Santa visited and the girls each had a lovely X-mas.
My eldest received a set of juvenile golf clubs so she can spend some summer afternoons with me chasing a small white ball. My little one received a pint-sized guitar and she's been strumming away at it ever since.
And somehow, I managed to avoid receiving a lump of coal again this year. Obviously, Mr Claus has a very different definition of 'naughty'.

In addition to a lot of ice and freezing slush, we did manage to receive an inch or two of snow, causing a delay to the start of school.
A nuisance but not too bad...

Eleven years ago, my eldest daughter was born in Carlisle (Pennsylvania) Hospital. Later that same day I literally fell asleep in my dinner on the floor of our apartment to wake some hours later with french fries stuck to my face.
I'll never forget the awe and shock at seeing her for the first time. And 11 years later she is still an awe-inspiring little thing (though she's over 5-feet and still growing).
Happy birthday Natalie!
