Why do all things go wrong at once - at Christmas?
Posted Dec 27, 2008
My - just out of warrantee - watch started gaining 15 minutes per hour, then stopping if I took it off. It's got one of those self-winding mechanisms.
The surface under the tiles of my kitchen floor has crumbled, leaving two of the tiles falling apart. I'll have to re-do the whole floor.
I have damaged my phone in some perverse manner, which now never has any reception.
Half the downstairs lights in my house all connected to one circuit breaker have stopped working, despite the circuit breaker giving out 240 volts - maybe a lost return? And worst of all - there's signs of Overheating in the fuse box as well - just great. I can see it either costing me an arm and a leg to get fixed, or ages proving it's the builder's fault and having to claim it on the NHBC guarantee.
I can see this is all payback for winning a set of wheels and tyres for my car on ebay, for an incredible price!

Looking Back
Posted Nov 20, 2008
I was just looking back through my journal and saw the one about having more memory for my computer delivered. The jolly thing went slower with if fitted! I tried the mew bank on it's own and it worked fine, it just wouldn't work with two banks in there - never mind, went out and bought a dual processor last year, which is lurvely....

Back for good?
Posted Feb 8, 2008
I was mentioning H2G2 to an old school pal the other day and realised it had been ages since I was active on the site. My intention is to pop in a few times a week to keep things fresh - but not to spend every waking hour here like I used to - I don't have the time or the opportunity these days.
Last time I looked at the calendar - it was still February - right?
Why is it then, that when I washed my car this afternoon, that before I could wax it, I had to flick off the aphids. What's going on? They're still putting salt on the roads for crying out loud!!

M25 Speed Camera Fiasco....
Posted Nov 14, 2005
I was driving back round the M25 (not a car park on this occasion) after my gig on Saturday night - it was probably 02.30 or there abouts. I'd got my cruise control set to 75, a little over the limit yes, but I'll not be setting off any cameras. There was only one other car on my side of the road that I could see, which went past me like a Bat Out Of Hell - setting off a camera
Does that mean that I'm going to get a ticket?
I shall have to hope that the positional relationship between the two cars, was such that I wasn't over the graticules painted on the road, which I don't think I was, but that's only in retrospect. I wasn't thinking about that at the time, I just thought that'll teach you. Then realised what speed I was in fact doing. There's always the "no film in the camera" option and the "my speedo over reads" option. I hope one of those saves me.

A Good Deed Goes Bad....
Posted Jul 24, 2005
Just my luck....
I stopped on the way home from work this morning to go to the aid of a young lad who had gone onto one of the roundabouts in town "A tad too fast" I think is what he said. Looking at the damage to his car - the OSF wheel tucked neatly under the wing was a bit of a give-away as to the understatement he'd made.
We tried to move the vehicle from it's resting place - half way across the exit from the roundabout, but of course were unable. As I turned to go back to my car, I spotted a chunk of brake disc on the road. Thinking that the pointy end might easily go into a tyre if driven over, I bent down to pick it up, only to find - from the searing pain shooting up my arm, that the thing was still stupidly hot.
I've now got a lovely set of burns on my thumb, index and middle fingers.
I could have just driven past - like all the other miserable sods....
