I hate to say it, but Obama put his health care plan into effect without a single Republican vote. If the Republicans undo it now that they're in power, it will be tit for tat. This is all so insane I wish I could find another planet to go to.

Insane indeed. Didn't Obama just more or less copy the health plan that GOP-Romney had introduced as governor of Massachusets

Yes, exactly. People keep pointing out that the ACA was passed without a single republican vote. There was no health care plan the dems could have proposed that would have gotten a single republican vote. Mitch McConnell had publicly declared that his, and republican legislators', prime goal was to deny Obama any victories. Obama and the dems were still trying to come to some compromise with a party that was sticking their fingers in their ears and their tongues out at them. So, they offered up a plan based on long established republican proposals. Gone was any single payer system which is what democratic voters were expecting. Gone were any realistic means to control medical costs. Instead we got a gift to the insurance, pharmaceutical, and health care lobbyists.

This is the reason that Republicans have yet to propose a coherent alternative to the ACA after 6 years of repeal attempts. The ACE WAS their alternative.
