One find's that if you "attend" work that is just fine, but one should never "work" at work as this breeds some sort of productivy

And one should never w*rk the day after a day off

During the last days of my active working career, I usually used the first workinhg day after my monthly weekend off commuting 350 - 400 miles one way back to work.

I have had jobs like that

I made a point of living almost close enough to walk to work. I still drive most of the time, but in an emergency I could easily get form home to work or vice versa.

Bet if it were pints of and empty glasses we would know by instinct

If the nine stalls are all in a row, side by side, they'll be bounded by ten walls or rails between them, including the two on the ends, so if you either tether the horse to them or have them straddle the rails, that might do it.
