Spring Break
Posted Apr 4, 2015
It's Spring Break. The students have three weeks hols, followed by a revision week then the exams fortnight. I have marking marking marking - essays and dissertations - and prep for the revision lectures, plus a fair amount of other stuff to do.
S is still in Kemnay, with me in Aberdeen. I should hopefully be moving out in the summer.
S is finished with her chemo/radio/herceptin. She got roped in to doing an honours seminar this week on Planning: A Consumer's Perspective.
We went to see the NT Treasure Island on Tuesday and I saw the new cut of Blade Runner last night.
This has been a long exhausting half-session, with loads of work still piling up but some hope of a wee break.
After seeing Arthur Darvil as Long John Silver on Tuesday, Susan decided to go visit our own local unumloripedemin* the hospital. He has a reputation there, on account of the constant kvetch kvetch kvetch. "Has he always complained so much?" one nurse asked. "I can only go back 32 years, but yes" was the reply.
I am at K for the day. Venison with cranberry and rosemary snags for tea. Plus carrots, parsnip, tatties and stuffing. Then a Sherlock Holmes. Then home.

*He says unidexter but that doesn't work as it was the right one that got cut off so he is if anything a zerodexter.

Driech road trip
Posted Mar 1, 2015
We went to St Andrews yesterday. Friday had been nice so we were suckered into it. The day was 51 Shades of Gray. We took a wee detour to look at Laurencekirk, a half-horse town notwithstanding that it has a train station. The local shops were pitiably run-down and the cafe - which looked good - couldn't manage to take an order from us so we left after 15 minutes, and the place wasn't busy. But this was to our benefit because approaching St A's, on a whim, we turned into a farm shop and resturant, and had a very good lunch indeed with some splendid home-brewed ginger beer and a delish bread and butter pud shared for afters. In St A's we did the charity shops and went to a ver' good second hand bookshop where I got a 1st ed Cockburn's Memorials for £12. We drove home. Susan's knee was playing up. I got up early this morning and have made a week's worth of food for freezing. Being at home on my own, I have toast and cheese for tea, and have found myself latterly craving vegetables. I am not going to Kemnay today. I will be working at home. It is a bonny day outside. Miah is out.

Well, time flies, time crawls, like an insect, up and down the walls. The half-session is zipping by, but the planning process seems stuck-like fly in amber - we have a site visit the week after next, and the year is flashing past crawling slowly getting nowhere. Och well.
Kemnay is less cold. Slightly. Aberdeen is warm and has a working shower. I read books and listen to music, and act as corpse disposer for ane catt - yes, Miah has got her mousie mojo back.
At the 'varsity the workload ratchets up. Still, the mornings and evenings are getting brighter.
S and I saw a hit and miss Princess Ida on Friday. I have a DVD of the operetta, introduced by - of all people - Douglas Fairbanks Jr. Topsy Turvy is in my 'for viewing' playlist.
A wee internet storm blew up last week in re an issue that I had a couple of years ago co-written a short note on. I went back to the note and read it, and thought to myself 'demmy! it isn't too bad.' Souvenirs of Scotland+Bain should take one to it.
Last week I founs on Youtube a complete Pygmalion with Robert Powell and Twiggy in't, and very splendid it was indeed. Indeed? Not bl... (yes it was.)

It's snowing outside
Posted Jan 18, 2015
Our first snow of the winter.
S and I had a nice long walk this afternoon. 5 miles in a couple hours. A saunter.
Hmmm... I may not be seeing much of her this week. It is raining where she is but here it is snowing steadily.
Classes start tomorrow.
I have been watching Poirot, Twin Peaks and - I am about to start the big box set - The X Files. I am reading Poirot and also Scots Law. Miah is next to me having a wash. I don't think she'll be wanting out. Other than the walk I have been working most of the day. I will need to get an early start tomorrow.
I never saw Twin Peaks first time round. It is cheesy.
