Yes, exactly. Westerwelle is so easily insulted he won't make much of a diplomat, and the less said about their policies, the better...

Having gay ministers isn't necessarily a good thing. We have Lord Mandelmort.

I don't care if a politician is gay or not - I want a good job done by them, not marry them smiley - winkeye

Blair had three gay cabinet ministers at one time: Mandelson, Chris Smith and Nick Brown.

I never knew Blair was Catholic. I don't know about any of our politicians, come to think of it. I guess Merkel is Protestant because she's from the East.

B'El, great photos, and pleased you are getting to grips with your camera (seen the H2G2 photographer's selection smiley - ok), and bring back wonderful smiley - cuddle memories.

I get my camera back from the smiley - lighthousesmiley - doctor tomorrow, and have a few days holiday coming up, so just hope the weather will be kind. Have 6 hours in Kew on Saturday, so plenty of opportunity to add to my photo collection!!!

The sun came out here also today. (Unfortunately I had to work inside most of the day, but did manage a 15 minute walk just before sunset.) We've just had the second wetest September on record and everything is muddy or mouldy.
Tomorrow it will start to turn a bit chilly for a while. Out of the perpetual rain and right into cold weather! Wonder if I'll have to start bringing my basil up on the porch at night? Everything is so damp, and it will be nice to see some dry weather, but I wish it would just stay warm two more weeks so my smiley - tomatos would finish ripening.

Today is the first day it's felt like autumn so far. We may even be able to switch off the a/c and open some windows tonight, if it's not raining. Yesterday was nice, too- warm (but not too), a light breeze and quite sunny. I'm looking forward to having a nice long walk this afternoon.

In the Far North, just south of the Polar Circle

Lovely photos, Bel.

Autumn is my favorite time of year, also. It's too early for the leaves to turn here, but when they do it is magnificent. We generally have such hot, miserable summers that the cooler temperatures are a great relief. I love the fresh apples and the smell of black walnuts and wood smoke. I converted my fireplace to gas, which is good, but I miss the smell of the burning logs.

Current temperature (according to the weather station at the nearby Uni) +4,7C, 2,2C if the wind chill factor is included smiley - brr

Snow! smiley - yikessmiley - brr

Hypatia, I imagine you miss the smell of burnt logs. It gives a certain atmosphere and a very special sort of warmth - gas or oil-generated warmth just can't compare with it. Hwever, it's much quicker to turn the gas heater on than to build a fire.
