Ah! Yes!! I remember that as well folks, when I was ill and in bed, my folks Hired a radio for me to have in my room.
It was a Stella, brown with a carrying handle, and a big dial on the right side, and a brass screen on the left which was the speaker
The reason I recall all the details was, it was all I could look at for ages!!
Yep! I also listened to the Top Twenty, and then Luxomberg and Radio Caroline at night!!

Hi Mistgirl, Yep! Ive managed to replace all my old vynil records that I lost (well my Ex wife took them all?) along with some that I had on tape
I remember my very first recored player, it was like a small suit-case, and a stylus that could play 78s as well as 45s God I feel old

Hi Sheryl
Smudger you must be my age (1945)
who would have thought we would sit at home with a pc and download music,we thought it was great when those small tape recorders came out and we could tape off the radio.and when 78 changed to 45's then now its cd's and I said they would'nt replace the 45's.we have certainly seen some changes.your right it does make me feel old LOL
This olden is off to bed now
Night all

my first one was the same if i recall rightly, but i do remember having one that my mother bought from a neighbour for me.The one i remember most was one in a wooden cabinet, not a radiogram,it was a wind up one,and had a cupboard underneath to store 78's!!!!We had that when i was about six!!!!

Hey! Folks, Its funny really, as we all can remember our first record player, yet we have probably forgot some things that were meant to be far more important
I ca also recall my very first Remote Light switch
It was on an old brass switch, and I tied string to it, and ran it along the ceiling to my bed. Then once I was in and ready, I just pulled the string Been inventing daft things ever since

I loved having a transitor that could pick up short-waved is it?
Other countries and other languages and the BBCpeople talking all over the world.
I often went to sleep with my ear on the radio and covers over my head, flshlight in hand.
Now I go to sleep at the keyboard or with my tv or stereo remote in my hand.

hi folks... now do i say evening, night or morning here... it's quarter past midnight....
my dad had one of those wind up record players for the 78's... it had a lift up lid to reveile the turn table and arm with a ruddy great big thick needle for a stylus... it had the storage cabinet, but also above that it had two doors that opened that had slanted slats inside... this was the volume control, the more the doors were open, the louder the sound....
it had the wind up arm at the side i think...

I mentioned Silver Surfers in a post recently, I think I will do a Snippet in about that, just an idea, as I am trying to think of more Stories from my past

Hi PM, When I was self employed, I ran a second hand furniture shop, I used to come across them quite a lot, and it was amazing just how much they went up in price over that 4 year period!

Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag, and smile, smile, smile..
While there's a Lucifer to light your fag, smile boys that's the style..
What's the use of worrying, it never was worthwhile..
So, pack up your troubles in your old kit bag and smile, smile, smile...

Hey! how can anyone be alone on here?
As long as youve got your computer, and are logged into here, you are NEVER alone (just like the song Eh!)
This site has been a God send to me, especially after I was invalided out the service, and home all day
the best thing Ive ever bought (apart from my marriage license)was this PC
