Mini-meet in Seville?
You can call me TC Posted Feb 21, 2006
We had a "Carmen-and-Tapas" evening at our Italian cultural society the other night (don't ask) and we watched the Placido Domingo/Julia Migenes film version of the opera. It wasn't filmed in Seville (probably too modern) but in a little village nearby.
I haven't told my husband I've booked yet, althought I've asked him dozens of times if he doesn't want to come with me... He can't (teachers can't take holidays when they want, which makes holiday-making with a teacher very expensive, as you can only go in the peak season)
I shall try and get into the cheap guest house you recommended some way back up this thread, Az. I was wondering about hiring a car - but probably this will only be necessary to get to and from the airport, so seems a bit of a waste as the rail service is so cheap.

hi TC,
The telephone number for the pensión is: (34) 954 21 56 68
I suggest you book as soon as possible as it tends to fill up quickly. I just called them and they said they still have space for that weekend. I can book it for you if you like but I'll need your name - you can send that to me by email: azaharh2g2 (at) yahoo (dot) com. This is the place for 20 euros a night per person and shared bathroom down the hall from your room.
I wouldn't hire a car if I were you. It would cost you a lot to park it in the centre and you won't be needing it while you're here. You're coming into Jerez, right? I think it's easier for you to just get a taxi from Jerez airport to the 'estación de trenes'. You can check out Jerez-Seville trains here:
http://www.renfe.es
The train takes about an hour and you can just get a taxi from the train station to the centre (it's not far). Or - when you get the train time sorted perhaps one of us can go out to meet you, depending on when it gets in.
If you email me I can also send you my phone number so you can call from Jerez once you get to the train station, just to confirm which train you're getting on.
Sound like a plan?
az
ps
Ben and Z - if you haven't booked at the pensión yet, I can also book a room for you if you still want to stay there. Just send me an email with your names. I thought they'd need a credit card number to book but they told me it wasn't necessary - I'd just need to call them the day before to confirm that you're still coming.

Reservations made.

Let me know if that's not correct. And remind me to call them the day before you arrive to confirm the reservation.

I fear that that excitement on my part may be poorly placed.
My sprogs have completed 1/10th of the painting I have assigned them (for pay) over the week I'm away. If they don't pull up their imaginary socks I fear I may not be able to put the box of air on the market on time. Never fear, I'll be their virtually if not physically although I'm trying hard for the later.

Have replied to Azahar with thanks for booking the room. Am now worrying about how to get to Jerez airport on time to catch the flight on the Sunday morning....

I've just called the bus station, TC. The first bus to Jerez on Sunday mornings leaves at 7.15 and arrives about 8.30-8.45, which should be *just* enough time for you to catch your flight as you should get to the airport around 9 o'clock.
Also checked with a taxi company - 110 euros! Still, that's probably not any more expensive than hiring a car and paying for parking for two days . . .

Oh my - you are wonderful. Thanks for checking that out. I am pretty sure there are more buses and trains than actually shown on the site - it did even say that the buses given from the airport to the station were "selecionados" so maybe there's another one which will allow me to catch the earlier train to Seville. I thought a taxi would be expensive, but I hadn't realised it would be that much!!!
I shall enjoy facing all the challenges of getting there. And being in Spain again.
How's everyone else coming along with their plans? Or am I the last one to get anything fixed?

I've got the Seville part organized, just realized that in 3 weeks and a day I'll be starting the invasion.
I can't *wait* to actually see everyone! Seems like yesterday I still had 3 months to wait.

Doesn't actually seem all that long ago that Noggin and I first talked about this idea while walking down by the river last August . . . now it's just 26 days away.
An extensive report???

Lucky, check with Teuchter about hotel accommodation. I seem to recall she found a good offer on the internet through a particular travel company - much cheaper than booking through the hotel itself.

Thanks, I'll try that.
Although if others are staying at the pension it would be good to be together.... do they have another double room available (Thursday - Saturday)?
Thank you sweetie
