I quite like Sleater-Kinney, who have no bassist. The act of not having a bass has been pulled off on numerous occasions, although Man-O-War's 'Sting of the Bumblebee' just wouldn't be the same...

Members will certainly be welcome to any new recordings but we have not even tried my songs yet, so they may be some time in coming ...... however I have some old Ruptured Dog demos on CD if anyone wants a listen ..... I think there was one track on the 1st CD I did for Rocketman ..... he may not want to hear anymore!!!

I wouldn't mind hearing some more Ruptured Dog after that excellent Stooges cover! What instrument(s) did you play in the band?

I havn't got any of those compilations - I tend to get the albums of stuff I've heard. Not sure which bands are on Epitaph without looking on the labels!!

JockMacAbre Posted Feb 25, 2003
Well, my fave bands from Epitaph are NoFx, Pennywise, 98 Mute, and Union 13
There are some class bands there.
And Fat Wreck Chords have some class bands too... except some of them are Pop-punk, like No Use for a Name, but, they make up for it with having a band like Anti-Flag on the label.

I have Punk-O-Rama Two around somewhere. It's got some good stuff on it (TSOL, Down by Law, Rancid, Joykiller, New Bomb Turks). I don't own any of the others, although my friends are all quite into the hardcore bands on Epitaph Records, like Agnostic Front, Death by Stereo and H2O.
I've heard most of the other P-O-Rs at parties etc because of them. From what I've heard, Punk-O-Rama Five seems quite cool

Oh my God, is there a new bomb TUrks track on number 2?
I need to get it... like... NOW!! lol
I love that band.
Yeah, Punk-o-Rama 5 is my favourite.
It has the fastest track ive heard since my band on it. Its by Union 13, and is called The Game.
And its got bands like Burning Heads, Beatsteaks, and Vision on it
"Everyone tells me Im close minded"
Great f**kin track!!

Hmmm, I think I'll have to investigate some of 'em.
Have not got any New Bomb Turks but have the band they came from - The Gories......... very primitive but fun!

The New Bomb Turks track on #2 is 'Jukebox lean'. I don't have any of their albums - I should probably get one.
I saw Union 13 a couple of years ago, supporting the Voodoo Glow Skulls. Both bands were really good, and I had a great time. It would be nice if either band came back, as I'd love to see them again. I remember the Voodoos' singer had a really cool witch doctor's staff with a flaming skull on the end
"Everyone tells me I'm close-minded" is by Visions, is it? I recognise that song, one of my friends played it in the Sixth Form Common Room the other day.

Can I join? I've just stumbled across the society... most people my age were into the Smiths when I was growing up, but I was looking back a few years and got heavily into The Jam, followed quickly by the Clash, Buzzcocks, Pistols etc. - and everything that has followed since.
I'm probably more of a Mod than a punk, but for me the SPIRIT of punk is incredibly important!
I also play the bass - I taught myself, mainly by learning to play along to Joy Division and Clash songs...

I reckon that you have to get New Bomb Turks albums albums imported, i wouldnt imagine the release anything over here at all.
Its just the popular punk bands like NoFx, Guttermouth, 98 Mute and Rancid that seem to sell really well(considering) over here.
You saw Union 13?? Lucky b(bleep>d lol
I wouldnt mind touring with em one day when my band is with Fat Wreck lol
Do you like the Manics or The D4 or stuff like that?

Number Six Posted Feb 26, 2003
I like what I've heard of the D4. Does anyone remember a band called Colouring Lesson? I think they were American, and released a single called 'It's My Fault (Mea Culpa Blues) over here in about '97, which got a lot of airplay on xfm. It was very ska-core, and I absolutely loved it, and never heard anything by the band ever again...

Not really into ska-punk stuff but -
No6 ...... there is no better way to learn bass than playing along with Joy Division

Welcome to the club Number Six.
My local record shop has quite a good Epitaph/Hellcat/Burning Heart selection. They're always doing offers where you get a free video with every Epitaph purchase. I guess bands like NOFX, Guttermouth and 98 Mute will always get more publicity and higher record sales over here, as they're certainly more radio/MTV/consumer friendly than their label mates Dillinger Escape Plan or Madball
I haven't really heard much of D4, and don't like the Manics
