Watch the yule log as it burns.
Hissing sparks fly up in turns,
While you think of days gone by,
Chances missed and cloudy sky.
One more year will soon begin;
Leaves turn over, maybe spin.
You resolve to lose some weight,
Take up polo, challenge fate,
Plant some eucalyptus trees
(Wait! Nix that, they'd surely freeze),
Learn to dance the cha cha cha,
Spend some time at some posh spa,
Learn Italian, maybe Greek,
Take up rowing on the creek.
(Keep these resolutions mum,
Lest you break them all. Ho, hum! )

I resolved to be resolved
To do the things I should.
But things are still the same somehow,
Resolution does no good.
So I will live by the simple charm,
If you can't do good, for God's sake do no harm.

Spruce tree and procrastination

Tomorrow I'll get me a tree,
With spangles and bangles galore.
What a dazzling sight it will be.
I will have the whole world at my door.

But what if I'm busy tomorrow?
The day after that I will go,
Even if someone's car I must borrow,
But not if it's starting to snow.

Well, *someday* I'll go for that tree.
A spruce, if not something related.
Next week's soon enough for ol' me.
