No extreme cold here right now. This morning (7 AM at time of posting) it's 12°F / -11°C. We haven't had any additional snowfall over the last couple of days, but there's a bit more forecast for tomorrow, IIRC.

Minerva came to us with some sort of upper respiratory system thing which made her sniffy and sneezy, with watery eyes and a runny nose. She'd have sneezing fits all the time, spraying little kitty boogers all over (especially the window she likes to sit in). She's on prednisone and an antiviral pill. She gets a vitamin drop for mild anemia (though how a cat that eats so much winds up mildly anemic is beyond me), and antacids because the prednisone upsets her tummy. She probably won't need the regimen forever, except maybe for the vitamin supplement.

I hope not, prednisone is a nasty drug for long durations.

Hmm; seems like most of us are entering the next Ice Age! Apparently it's due to some sort of freezing winds coming across from Iceland; maybe start playing Björk music quick in an attempt to appease the gods of snow?

Lucky Skanky, off to the Gambia this week to get wed!smiley - bubbly

I took prednisone a couple of times, too, so I know what kinds of side effects it has, so I hope she's off it soon, too. Poor thing.

Terri, I looked up weather conditions in the Gambia, and I much prefer what I've got here. I *hate* hot weather. At least if I'm chilly, I can do something to warm up.

I heard on the news last night that it might get really cold here sometime over the next few days, but looking at the forecast, the average high should be around -8°, which isn't bad at all. I wonder when the cold snap is going to hit? Hopefully we won't get a pile of snow first. It's difficult walking on a ton of snow frozen rock solid. smiley - silly

Hi Terri,

A good fall of snow and still snowing but I would not say it was snowing heavily but moderately. I remember when living in Essex in the 80's and getting this amount of snow every year and when living in the 60's in Northumberland, that the winters were colder.

Got my bins emptied today, and the buses are running and the post being delivered. I got a letter from the library to pick up a book which I picked up from the library on Friday. Once got a letter to tell me about a book to collect from the library a week after I took it back. And there have been times when I have been told there is a book ready for me to collect and nothing is there.

Tee-hee, ours were due back last week, tried to phone & renew, but no staff there, what with Christmas, New year & snow; so if we get fined, will appeal!

It's forecast to be around minus 10 tonight, it's minus around 4 now (afternoon) & of course P has gone off for a hike up in the hillssmiley - rolleyes

I'm staying here 'keeping the home fires burning'!!!

Cats are sleeping on the hot press (for non Irish squeakers, it's the warm cupboard you store towels, sheets etc)

Yippee, we have a hooter here!smiley - somersault

It was easy to spot him, he didn't wear a red carnation, but a hat with h2g2 logo.....TRiG & P are now busy doing computering in the next room; so nice that P gets some 'male bonding' stuff at last.

The drive to & from the station was a bit scary; main roads are clear, but not littler ones; but we made it.

It's now snowing again; hope we can make it out to get him home!

! I was at home during Xmas/NewYear. 8" per night, lots of sidewalk and half a county of front yard my mum wanted to be done by 7am...mind, I still ended up with additional weight. Mum doesn´t believe in calories-free cooking in wintertime.

I downed my share of eggnog this season! Very calorie inducing.

I have never had a egg nog but I have had a snowball made with lemonade and avocado. The first time I drank it was in the 70's cannot stand it now. Another drink I used to like was Baileys but I cannot drink without thinking of a type of children's penicillin medicine I used to have in the 60's.smiley - stiffdrink

Hi folks!

I'm drinking Baileys right now, mainly 'cos all else has run out & we couldn't get out to the shops; but seems to be thawing a bit, so hopefully tomorrow can get into the town, stock up on stuff, renew library books, get more coal in, collect my meds, more oats for animals etc...

It was lovely having TRiG here, very nice guysmiley - hug & he has been w**king hard to get our website up & running.Zendevil.com is now officially registered as a domain name; so is the smiley - evilgrin business we are plotting....more on that once the actual website is constructedsmiley - shhh

We managed to get enough hot water for a lovely long bath tonight; P's water pipes have burst, but not here in main house. it must be far worse for those folks on mainstream grid; we are set up to cope with such events; if you are accustomed tojust expecting heat/light/hot water etc to appear at the touch of a switch & it doesn't, when you need it most & have no alternative it must be a dreadful shock.

I assume most of 'you lot' are on the grid; what would *your plan* be if suddenly it failed?

smiley - laughTerri - easy to have to find out how to get by without - just don´t pay your bills. Having enough animals in the house (don´t look at P when you read this) makes sure everyone has a warm bed. We have yet to find a way to wrap the waterpipes around the cat in order to take a hot shower, though.smiley - winkeye
