Hippie Chrimble all of 'you lot'smiley - hugsmiley - mistletoesmiley - holly

It's not been a brilliant one here; doggy was *very* sick, P had to de-snow the lane & get her to vet, we hope she will be OK, but are prepared for the worst, she's not eating, moving etc.

I'm staying up all night to check on her. She's had an intravenous drip & needs to see vet agin tomorrow. Even the vet can't say if she's picked up poison, or what. For me, it's extra traumatic 'cos i had a beautiful deaf Dalmation doggy *deliberately* poisoned in Pakistan; hell; she was less t(han a year old & wouldn't hurt a fly; i had to watch her autopsy by law on Xmas day.smiley - cry

But good news is: lovely V, P's son has arrived!
He's off to Norway soon, so we may not see him for a while; it's brilliant he chose to stay here at Xmas, despite the power failure stuff (he greww up in this house*quote"I must have beeen the most well-ventilated child on the planet"

I got a hot-water bottle in a red fluffy coat, a bottle of B vitamins & an extremely alarming alarm clock from P; ie: life-saving devices! (What i really wanted was a bass guitar, but it's the thought that counts)

What did 'you lot' get from Santysmiley - santa

Hi Terri.

Hope your doggie will be okay.

I got some beautiful placemats for Christmas. Went to a family party Christmas Eve, and then had a little party for friends today, Christmas Day. Both were really fun.

Hi Terry,

I hope that your dog will get better very soon.smiley - hugsmiley - cuddle

Two days before Christmas I made three smiley - xmaspuds and they are the healthiest that I have made. With so many variety of fruits and nuts. I even added plums, dried apricots, a large grated carrot and dates. I have had rest of the first smiley - xmaspud and there are two other's smiley - xmaspud, as there will be one for during the week and New Year as I am very fond of smiley - xmaspud.

Mmmm, sounds yummy!smiley - drool

I made 2 fruit cakes, P made biscuits in Christmas shapes; we've eaten some bikkies, but not cakes; V goes back to Mum tomorrow; so will take them with him for her.

Edda doggy seems to be en-route to doggy heaven.smiley - cry, but doesn't appear to be in pain; decision made not to further traumatise her by taking her to vet & let her decide to go in her own home at her own time. Seems it's likely to be kidney failure.smiley - sadface

I hope P will be able to handle this; she has been his adored companion for around 12 years, travelled the world with him etc.

I know that must be so hard for you both, but for what it's worth, I think you are doing the right thing. I am hoping your dear pet passes with no pain. Wish I could do something, but I'm sure you feel the same way. Thinking of you dear.

It must be hard on both of you, yes, though perhaps the vet could help?

Whatever you decide, I hope the pup doesn't suffer much pain and feels all the love you both have for her.

I got free acupuncture for Christmas; I've had a third relapse of the upper respiratory infection I've had off and on since September, and K's sister needled me a bit to help loosen things up. Also got some flannel pajama bottoms, fluffy socks, a lovely headband. K gave me a couple of books, a Cyberman action figure and a CD set I'd wanted.

Herman's tail is on the mend, and Minerva seems to be recovering at last from her own respiratory ailment. I wonder if we both have the same thing...?

I have some sad news to pass on from Terri (at the moment she is unable to get on the internet)

in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday) P's dog past away, having been ill for about a week and slowly ebbed awaysmiley - sadfacesmiley - rose

as most know, a pet is not just a pet, but part of the family and P had had the dog for about 12 years

I know your thoughts will be with Terri and P and she will be here as soon as she possibly can and will give more information then

It's a shame the vet couldn't figure out what was wrong and try to help. I've never considered a companion animal to be a pet and I know Terri doesn't either. Terri and P, my condolences and you are in my thoughts even if I can't get them to you in person right now. smiley - hug

On here briefly, very little power for computer or indeed anything; it may go off any second.

Edda *seems* to have passed peacefully, in her box under P's desk; P, his son V made a lovely grave with a cairn of rocks, we buried her covered with my coat, the teddy bear i got her last Christmas, her bowl with bikkies in.

We are both very smiley - sadface, obviously it's really evil for P; she was very much part of his life. We managed to take some photos of her towards the end & she didn't look in pain; just very tired.

But we both can't help smiley - cry at all sorts of times; the smallest thing reminds that she's not there. Also reminds me of my animal companions passing at Christmas, may they all R.I.P smiley - rose

Aw Terri, I'm so sorry to hear about Edda! I know how one's animal companions can become part of one's life and identity. Our old cat Katix died at the age of 17. At the moment, our one cat Kadoefie is 14, and her daughter Poplap is 13, and both of them are still very healthy, and full members of our family; its difficult imagining 'us' without 'them'.

At any rate, best wishes for 2010 from me.

Thank you, all of you for your compassion & understanding.smiley - hug; indeed, she wasn't a 'pet' but a true faithful companion.

Some folk i guess would have the attitude "Ah; it's just a dog, get another"; but not "Us Lot"!

Happy New Year to you all, love you all.

Thanks so much for being here for me, i'm here for you also when you need a fiend; long may that continue.smiley - lovesmiley - evilgrin

Even worse, there are some people who think "it's only a pet" and would rather kill or get rid of their companion than pay a vet bill. Then there's people like you and P who valued your beloved companion, did all you could do, then made sure poor Edda spent her remaining time at home, surrounded by the people who loved her. smiley - hug

Speaking of vets, between Herman's recent broken tail treatment and Minerva's antibiotic, antacids, anemia vitamins and eye drops, we've spent almost as much time at the vet these last few weeks as at home. smiley - laugh

Happy new year to you, too, my Wooh. Hope lots of good things happen for you this year.

smiley - ta PCwooh! How is Herman's poor tail now? Why is Minerva on all those meds?

Here, we are somewhat distracted by the smiley - snowballsmiley - brr; it's the coldest winter in more than 20 years, though apparently not (yet!) as bad as in Britain. This means pretty much constant feeding of smiley - sheep, goat, donkey & of course the smiley - tit, clearing snow & trying to avoid slipping over.

P frightens me by climbing over the roof brushing snow off the solar panels & amazes me by scuttling to & fro in just his underwear!smiley - yikes; i reckon his thermostat is set wrong!

The fridge/freezer isn't working 'cos of low power levels; so i am frantically trying to use up the contents & getting to the village is not easy with icy roads, even smiley - thepost can't get through, so we are pretty much in hibernation mode!

Are the rest of 'you lot' in Northern hemisphere getting extreme cold stuff? I read that U.K is considering importing tons of salt from Africa to try & get the roads passable.....er, but if the roads aren't passable, how will they get the salt to them?smiley - huh

We're supposed to get snow here this week Terri. Memphians don't drive very well in snow.

Houstonians drive even worse. And we're expecting a "hard freeze". That's what we call it when we get more than 24 hours of lower than freezing temps. It doesn't happen very often on the Texas gulf coast, but when it does it's rather exciting, what with all the cars banging about and unprotected pipes bursting.
