Thanks folks; I will pass on your thoughts.I'm sure she will appreciate them.
It really makes you think; how often we don't fully appreciate someone until it's too late...so; maybe a lesson for us all to do so?
I am very bad at dealing with 'death' stuff; as are many of 'you lot' maybe; having had too much of it...i don't know how to comfort someone, when the only person they need to comfort them is the lost one.
Any advice, thoughts etc: appreciated; i care for Val & weep for her loss. If P were to go; i would despàeratly hope it wwould be with me, preferably during a sex-induced heart attack!

Terri, my personal thoughts are:- the human body is only a shell and that's it! but the person themselves exist! while I draw breath because they are in my heart and I have a memory of he/she, each person who knows he/she will have a different memory of course but the scenario is the same - they live on

I hope to see things that way; Prof; wise words.
But i would i fear, feel so dreadful.... it's the little things; like he brought me hot tea in bed today 'cos i was cold, i bring him coffee also; we both basically *care* about each other.
Very much.
I do think it helps to have a caring community like this in such times; it obviously can't make up for loss of the most loved person, but may take the edge of grief a bit.

from one of my threads Terri, it says who I am and I reckon it also applies to how many feel on hootoo
Having thought long and hard, well about 5 minutes and not so hard. I've come up with the definition of a FRIEND.
One who stands by your side, through thick and thin--good and bad times, as you go forward in life.
But to stand in front of you,if they think it will lead to danger or that you are wrong in going forward at that time, again a dangerous move.
At anytime, will give advice, but! not order it done.
Will have a shoulder standing by, should you fall or need a rest.
To have the energy to lift your spirits, should you falter in your stride.
To be a companion, when others desert if the going gets harder.
To be your shadow, even when the sun does not shine.
Then while doing all that, will watch you back 24/7, so no harm can sneak up on you.
And in the end, a true friend asks for nothing in return, except the hand of friendship.
Carrying out this definition can also lose friends, but a true friend must follow this path, no matter what the cost, or can not be called a friend in the end.
There are many more sub parts to this definition and a life time it takes, to find but a few.
The reason it took a while to come up with this definition, is that it is mine and not out of a book, it is who I am and what I shall always be.
a friend

Beautiful words, Prof. Says it all really.
Aye Bee is aware we are all thinking about her, & is great with that, but not maybe in a state to communicate much right now; though she sent me a very funny email involving cats!
She's a brave & loving person.
Here, we are pretty much snowed in; which was a problem today, Edda isn't well & we desperately wanted to get her to Vet; managed to get out 'cos P shovelled a load of snow, but couldn't get back in without both of us doing so.
Edda seems to basically have arthritis due to age, Vet recommends painkiller jab every five days plus Linseed oil & Glucosamine. Sounds good and natural'ish' but costs a fortune! But anything which helps a much loved animal in pain is worth it.
I can do the jabs here which saves her the trauma of visiting the vet, plus fuel, and if the snow continues, we can't move the van anyway!
Lucky to be able to type this, we have 'F' all solar or wind, down to candles once more!
What would 'you lot' do if suddenly you had no mains electric? (I mean; long term, not a short circuit thing).....what's 'your' back up plan when the oil runs out?

They do indeed, Prof.
Thank you for your lovely Christmas card, twinkly-winkly, very much like the scene here now!
How much snow have you had?

your both welcome
we have snow, but as we're in what is called the Vale of York, we only get tail-enders of any weather patterns, so not much compared to other parts of brit'

Hi all.
many many thanks for all of your good wishes, support and now for your sympathies.
has been a very hard time. short, viscious illness, but, unfortunately failing a happier outcome, thankfully now at peace with no pain.
we had a small service here in Ireland today at the same time as the one in Cape town, i just simply could not get back there again so soon. i will go in my own time and visit when i can. i needed to do something though to put things straight in my own head. i expect him to phone me at any minute..
for now just trying to come to terms.
thanks again for all your kindness. xxx

Much love and for you, Aye Bee.
I guess I don't really have a backup for long power failure. Candles for heating, staying in a small room in the house. And cooking on an alcohol burner that I have. But that's all short term.

Hello all
thank you again (hello again pillocase) for all of your messages of support and sympathy. much apreciated
was talkin to terri today on the phone for a time and she said to tell you if i was in that she has no electric, or at least not enough to run the computer as well as what they need to keep going there. they are pretty much snowed in, but range is working and it seems like picture postcard cosiness. (never is, but it seems like that from here, where there are 2 under 11 longing for snow and all we got was 2 inches of ice)
anyway, thats why she has not been online. just so you know.
