Right folks and folkes.
Just to let you know, that very shortly (days not weeks) I will be having my house sort of modernised by the council.
The work to be carried out is going to be:
Knocking part of my kitchen inner wall out, to give me about 3ft extra area, with new cupboards/sink unit (poky kitchen at the moment)
New double glazing windows, from single.
New radiators, not sure if pipe work will be renewed as such.
Combi boiler set up, so back boiler and pump will be removed I think
Rewiring of electrical sockets etc
New toilet and bathroom areas
New plastic front and back door
( those with the multiple locking levers from top to bottom.)
There are other things I require doing, that are not part of the modernising program, but are essential repairs that will need addressing, because of the modernising work.
By all accounts, most of my belongings will be taken in to storage, which means there’s a chance of my PC going as well – dust and possible damage to property limitations are the name of the game.
People I’ve spoken to, including my mam lol! Who have already had the modernising done, had most of their stuff removed before hand.
They say it will take 5 weeks to complete, but one never knows eh! I’ll keep open on that one.
So I hope that the next few weeks are dry, mild and no wind, as the windows will be out and the doors more than likely will constantly be open
If I do have to go offline for a week or two, I will pass on updates to Lil and then she will kindly add them to this thread for me.

Blimey! Prof's going to be knocked up for the next five weeks?
Going to be plastered?
Getting extensions?
Will we recognise HIMafter all this?
And more to the point... Will it be completed by the time of the 'MMF-absent' (some would say , others would say !!!) Hull Meet?

You have my deepest sympathies, my fiend
At much the ame time; i am trying to work out how to exit this place, wethher the Beast will work in Ireland, how blating cold it's gonna be & now a new mobile which only works in France.
Up to my ayes in papaerwork to escape, bet you have same thing "prove you are disabled if you managed to get to the Doctor" stuff......well;actually we do it by taking painkillers in advance & sheer bludymindedness.
My advice in all this is:it's worth it in the end, but find siomewhere WARM & COMFY to stay while they rip your house to bits.
I bet Lil's got space under that rug of hers....at this rate she willl end up with an extra 25 hooter refugees!
But mini meets are becoming far more likely

you *are* moving out, aren't you? Tell them due to your health issues you require a hotel room, at least!
You ~are~ still coming to the Hull meet, aren't you?

Why not just go to Hull for the duration? Hasn't Hoggy just converted a loft or a belfry or something?

hi prof
-
having had the house turned upside down myself,
-
you are in for a real bumpy ride lol
-
you had better keep the hoover handdy, from day to day, watch they dont try to put things under the floorboards, ie can and such, when they came back the ,second time, the rubbish under the top landing was unbeleivable.
-
you need eyes in the back of your head, and if your having an alarm, make sure its positined on the door right, mine went off over 7 times till they got it right, i wont use it, incase it starts again lol, good luck, you will probably need it.

speaking from experience lol jim

But mini meets are becoming far more likely! Terri, you'll get the biggestin the world love
no,they don't move you out, no sweat I'm used to muck
council say they will decorate 2 rooms, BUT! as the kitchen and bathroom will be part tiled, the un-tiled will be emulsioned so that'll be their 2 rooms I bet .
The contractors have said that they send a bloke to decorate, if I'm unable(of which I am).
As I am having windows and central heating redone, I have 9 large air vents around the house that I require filling in and as rewiring will ruin all rooms,it will be a total house decorating
I'll still be at HullChaos shall reign no worries
and thanks for your posts my friends

Hi Prof, I hope all goes as smoothly as possible for you. You know what I went through over the last 12 mths so let's hope they get it right for you. Definitely keep the PC and peripherals well covered, they don't like brick or plaster dust. In fact any electrical items with 'air vents/slots need well covering or as you say, put in safe storage.
ps. In an emergency I have a tent you can borrow for the duration.
