Hello BoP, sorry to hear about your allergy, which ever source it may be. I am allergic to cat and dog fur which can actually be a blessing at times if you want to make a hasty exit from somewhere where they have the creatures in residence!
AS to the head teacher, the problem with most parents is that they are quite happy to moan behind backs but ask them to to take a little direct action and suddenly they are very happy with the situation, whilst others are genuinely intimidated. I am happier tackling things like this on a one to one basis...I'm quite effective...I used to be an investigator (I will not say what kind but quick thinking and good analysis of a situation were required) and so although I might lose a few battles the war is usually won An ex of mine called me his little pit bull terrier with good reason

Magster - the anitcipation is just too much to bear - I've got to wait 'til end of half-term? Perhaps you could try out your various arguements on us....unfortunately I do not have suit or high heels - but could stand here in barefeet 'thinking' drill sergent!
One to one is best - esp with the type of person you describe - they will not react well to loosing face in front of others. If there are no witnesses to play to they are more likely to see your reasonable point of view!
Poor BoP - no rasberries - and no Instant Capp - Hazel this is something, in weaker moments, that I indulge in. But I have never heard of vanilla - these Canadians, eh - they think of everything. It is fine so long as you keep in mind that this is not coffee - or anything remotely like it! I hope the hives are better now....

Good morning CG of the scarletness, good to see you are in a mean, lean, fighting machine mood today
You have to wait unti a week next Monday but practising arguments is a good idea. I'll start with a perfectly reasonable question. What are your views in parent/teacher interaction, should it be encouraged in order to facilitate the sucessful running of a primary school?
I am not a fan of instant cappucino...I always end up with lumps that taste disgusting. Got a machine now!

Magster 'The bull terrier': " What are your views in parent/teacher interaction, should it be encouraged in order to facilitate the sucessful running of a primary school?"
Bossy-boots head teacher "Certainly not. We have enough trouble trying to retrain the pupils after the slap-dash way some parents bring them up. We don't have time to consider individual whimsies: our job is to create a product and that product is good SAT results. When we get good SAT results everyone will realise what an excellent school we are and you the parent will benefit because all your friends will say - Oh I wish my children went to that school. Next!"

Hazel, hmmm, are you she? My reply to headteacher thus far, "Oh, that would be why you have banned parents from the playground at all times then (this includes times when children are delivered and picked up). Now you have explained, I see your point of view. Parents really should be banned from raising their children, as they obviously do not have the correct skills whereas teachers know best and at all times. When may I bring the children's beds and which classroom would you wish me to place them? Whilst on the subject, I presume you will no longer be requiring my services, provided free of charge, three times per week as a classroom assistant?"

Good morning!
Lumpy Cappuccino is definitely not good. Yuk. But the instant stuff is just a quick at work substitute.
Very wise and strong of you to go on your own. If it doesn't work then maybe you should ask her to come to the message board and we can have a round table discussion.
Teachers can be very awful. My mother had to talk to my music teacher because I was deducted 10% off of my term mark for not being at a concert. At the warm-up for the concert I found out that one of my good friends passed on and the teacher told me that I could go home. but she still took off the marks. Needless to say my mum is a softy on the outside but when it comes to her family she rages and defends us! So important and great of you that your standing up for your child's education.

BossyBoots HeadTeacher: "Ms Magster (I assume you are a Ms as you trouble-makers always are). Our job as I have explained is to train pupils to get good SAT results. Those who are unable to do this should sit quietly in the corner and absent themselves from the tests. If you feel unable to take care of your children outside school hours then I suggest you either place them in a boarding establishment or drop them off at your local Social services.
You are in the privileged position of experiencing our school at first hand during your "assisting" sessions. I assure you that parents are queueing up for the job."
(Magster - I am getting worried now because I am enjoying being this gruesome!

Hazel, don't worry, a little bit of bossyness does us all some good! I can see you now, with your gown on, and no doubt the boys will soon let us have further lurid details as to how they imagine you in in your bossy head teacher role
"Bossy Head Teacher, yes you are correct in assuming the title as Ms. I am pleased that developments in the late 20thC have actually reached the closed world of teaching. Personally, I have never been too worried about SATS and the results thereof. I am more interested in the overall rounded development of the child as a whole and useful person who will become an asset to the community that they live in. Taking this into account, I assume that you will have no problem when I arrange the annual family holiday during the period in which SATS are taken. If you feel that you cannot grant the ten days annual holiday that is permitted, then I shall naturally take an appeal to the local education authority, several members of which are close personal friends (true). This may have some effect upon the overall SATS score and that would be so sad for you. Now, can we talk sensibly please, as I know for a fact that there are NO parents wanting to assist in the classrooms, as you have driven them all away."
PS: Sorry BoP, you are not actually a PS, but hello. Are you looking forward to the weekend? I am

BBHT : "Ms Magster. the Government has stated that the purpose of schools is to get good SAT results. You are obviously some sort of dangerous maniac who seems to think that education is about something else. I would be more than happy for you to take your children away permanently. No other parent has spoken to me with a problem so it is obvious that they are all perfectly happy with the way I run this institution. Now if you'll excuse me I have some children to test."
Magster - I must now slip gratefully out of my role (these shoes are killing me), as I am going away for the weekend.
Before I go I would just like to say to everyone - sorry if I was a bit negative the other evening. I was feeling a bit gloomy . I am normally very resilient!
So - Magster, Petunia, CG, Chopsy, Ali (pet), Pat, Peter, Bushy, VMax - have a great w/e with whatever sporty/family/friendly/slouching actvities you prefer. And if you get a chance, hope you will pop in and leave some juicy gossip for me to enjoy when I get back.
Hazel

Have a great weekend!!
I just came back from the most amazing lunch! Amazing in the way that A friend of mine works for the national arts center in ottawa. She took me back stage on the main huge stage. I stood there in the middle of this huge open stage and I almost started to cry. It was amazing. I love drama and singing and really anyform of art. It was the most incredible experience!ahhh the weekend. Toronto here I come! Nothing but good times ahead. Ottawa is a sunny and perfect 21degrees today. It's room temperature with a warm wind blowing through. It's very good of you to wait to talk to that awful woman because you'll be cool calm and collected, your thoughts will be organized, and she'll be blown out of the water!
