Ali - I think I have sorted out your last 2 replies . Now - why can you not do anything with potatoes? And which women have been hitting you?

Ali Dubya Posted May 27, 2003
I wouldn't know the first thing about 'Wolves', Magster. I am a mere Ipswich Town supporter and thereforeknow nothing about football.

What are these "wolves" of whom you speak Magster? I hope they are not at the door.
And now, in accordance with LouLou's orders, I am going to the Pub!
See you all tomorrow!

Well, Hazel, firstly, I don't like spuds much. I find them unwieldy and rather lacking in charisma as far as veggies go; secondly, I always overcook them; and thirdly how can anyone get excited about cooking the things when they make better paperweights than edibles?
I haven't been hit by a woman recently, thank goodness.

Hazel, yes, I am encouraging you to watch BB4, because we can then have nice little chats about it
Lou, I hope Avid does not rear his ugly little head. Drives me nuts and is not funny in the slightest.
Ali, my sympathies on being a fan of Ipswich. They haven't brought you much joy recently have they? I remember years and years ago being in Perry Barr with my Grandparents one Saturday afternoon when all the coaches started pouring through after leaving the M6, full of Ipswich supporters travelling to Villa Park (or Witton Beach as it is known in them there parts) for a FA Cup semi-final, I think Beattie was playing for them so that's how long ago it was. Were you just a little tot back then and were you there?
As to spuds, well I find it difficult to summon up enthusiasm for them too. I like 'em baked or roasted or a home made potato salad but apart from that YUK!
Now Ali, where would you like me to smack you ?

The potato is the king of vegetables: tasty, versatile and multifarious.
Heh! guess what? The sun's shining: hurrah!

Than who is the queen?? The corn or the picle.
Well, the sun is shining but I'm not too fond of the heat comng up.

The Queen is the parsnip, of that there can be no doubt.
For those of you who like synchronicity, there's a story about BB and potatoes here:http://www.channel4.com/bigbrother/news/newsstory.jsp?id=1270

I agree with Pat. Potatoes are delicious. On a hot day like today - cold boiled baby potatoes with smoked salmon and mayonnaise. Mmmmmm,
Now - I have decided that it would be a shame to waste this sunshine decorating, so I am going to sit outside. (Strangely enough - sometimes it's too cold/wet/foggy to decorate, as well).

Hello all,
My mean old manager has me w*rking my socks off on a customer site, so I haven't been able to get to the boards or YM much recently. Bah!
However, I've managed to have a quick scoot through the last weeks postings here, and my views, in no particular order, are:
Enemy at the Gate - excellent film imho.
Jude Law - He looks unreal, like he's computer-generated, or an animatronic! Weirdo!
Sean Connery - great actor, 2nd best James Bond ever (after Roger Moore, obviously).
BB - never had the slightest interest in watching it or hearing about it. The whole concept seems pointless to me.
Simpsons / Futurama - I get my fix on SKY1 every night, even though they are all repeats I've seen before (saddo, I know!). They still make me laugh after countless viewings, especially the later Simpsons.
Does anyone know who got promoted to the PL this year via the play-offs, BTW? I wonder which of the big teams the young goalkeeper, Matt Murray, will be playing for by the end of next season...

I have to agree that potatoes are excellent. Without them we'd have no chips or crisps...

time to nail this one down:
POTATOES: they're great, and hazel, V Max and I are right.
Alistair: you're wrong.
Next?

Mind you, I find boiled potatoes mind-numbingly dull...

The Magster Posted May 28, 2003
Pat, please explain in what way Potatoes are great because like I said, pot salad and roasters are the only decent things one can do with the things, oh and a bake with chilli and cheese. Boiled ...uurggh, rosti...yuk, chips....greasy, mashed...vile
A challenge to you Pat
Matt will still be playing for the Wolves at the end of next season because by then they will be one of the top teams in the premiership
By the way, did you know that the WOLVES won the play off final and are now in the premiership. Just thought I would let you know in case you had not heard.
And now I shall return to my tubs...busy planting etc today. My the sun is lovely

Magster,
Sorry, but my money's on Wolves struggling next season. Even if they stay up, Murray looks like such a good prospect I can see Arsenal, Man Utd or maybe even Everton taking an interest in him, although more as a squad player than a 1st choice.
A jacket-potato with sour cream and chives is a thing of loveliness, BTW. I don't eat a lot of meat, so I will be a champion of the much-maligned potato.

Ali Dubya Posted May 28, 2003
Baked potatoes are the culinary equivalent of Cliff Richard: bland but difficult to tolerate for too long.
I accept that chips are wonderful and sauteed spuds are quiet mice, especially with onion and bacon. But the fact remains that you cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

What an extraordinary typo...
