Frantics stuff looks v funny, but what does it have to do with '4 on the Floor'?

bowl of petunias Posted May 13, 2003
Alright, it took some time but here goes
-White Stripes
-Led Zepplin
-Ben Harper
-Hawkesley Workman
-And my last highly Original pick is.....The Beatles
there are some Classics, mixed in with some new superstars and some less known ones. An pretty good balance.
As for the punk scene, AWESOME!!! The village outside of Ottawa that I've gron up in has a great punk comunity. My regular Friday night were usually spent at punk shows. The group that I first really got into is Rancid. I'm more of a ska fan though.

BoP,
Best punk/ska crossover - Less Than Jake?
Pat,
Sorry, to be clear: The Frantics were the comedy troupe, Four on the Floor was their first TV show (1 series of 13 episodes, I've discovered), History Bites is a spin-off by some of the original Frantics. Phew, hope that's right!

Less than Jake is very good. I heven't listened to them in a while though. For classic ska, the Special are fab. And for new Ska there's a group out of California called The Slackers. They're great! and then there's the fabulous stylings of Sublime, which takes in alot of different styles. I was pretty impressed by the first release from the Transplants, wow way to go joining Blink and Rancid.

Where do all you wonderful people know each other from?

wysiwyger Posted May 13, 2003
Petunia,
we mostly met on the BBC msgboards - there's one called Mornington Crescent Hurrah! (after a silly game on a cult radio pgm called I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue - I don't know if you have ever heard of it) & another one called 5live (radio station mostly news & sport). The "5livers' started playing Pirate games - raiding other boards with silly posts - they came to MC-H & - as that is a board devoted to silly games - lots of people joined in. Then some of us started to raid other boards together - which wasn't always appreciated .
Anyway - I think the thing we have in common is a mental age of about 5!

Hello BoP
We like Ben Harper in this house
I guess the wonderful people know each other from various BBC radio MBs mainly - but then other folk, like you and legers pop in too which is very good.
How are things with you?

Wow, I'm at a loss.
That's a fabulous meeting story.
Ben Harper is coming for a concert on the front lawn of my Office building in July and I'm going to call and pretend to be a part of the media to be able to meet him. I'm a woman with a mission! Everything here is great. The weather should be clearing up and so should the gloomy cold moods going along with it.
You?

Hello CG - how's things with you? I was offline for a while - courtesy of BT - & currently trying not to spend too much time with my head in a screen!
Petunia - I have to confess that I don't listen to a lot of music at the moment (though I do love reggae) and I don't know who Ben Harper is!

No problem!
He's a great Musician, not all that well known world wide.
He does a great version of Sexual Healing.
Maybe the music question should be thrown to everyone, what do you guys listen to? We've had the punk input, anybody else?
my favorite classical work is Holst's Planets.

Petunia - I must have missed the Punk posting! I didn't see anyone mention the Buzzcocks!
I don't think anyone else is around at the moment - we seem to be going through a quiet phase at the moment.
Do you get any recent Brit comedy over there?

Hello Hazel, hello CG, hello BoP and hello to anyone else who might be tuning in from another colony of the British Commonwealth.
Oops. Should I have said that?

Hello Ali (pet),
yes - it's good to see we are still ruling the (air)waves
What have you been up to?

Ali Dubya Posted May 13, 2003
Hello (again) Hazel (gooseberry),
Dash and blast it, I have had to do some w**k today, which was deeply unpleasant and stressful. I have been playing some cri**et, which I won't discuss on air because you hate sport.
Else, nowt.
What has H2G2's one and only Wysiwyger (as opposed to Wysiwyg) been doing recently?

BTW, did you see that 'Existenz' was on telly the other day? Is that a chilling coincidence or what? We were only talking about it recently.
Next thing I know, a new series on Big Brother is due to start JUST after it was mentioned here...
Is Uri Geller present?

Hello all
Especially Ali, Scarlet, and wysiwyger.
I'm chilling, listenning to good old metallica (noone can be better, if anyone says otherwise, I'll invite to a duel).
What are some of the topics we are talking about today?

wysiwyger Posted May 13, 2003
It's amazing how stressful a bit of w**k can be! I was also w**king Monday but today I have been planning some decorating! Well... by planning, I mean sort of vaguely thinking about colours and looking for some cheap fabric on the Internet.
I also noticed there is a wysiwyg - I was going to use that, but now I'm much happier with the -er.
You can talk about cricket if you like - just don't expect me to say anything intelligent

Hello Legers,
today I think we are just aimlessly gossiping (for a change!)
Ali - yes I actually watched eXistenZ the other day - it is a really good film although Jude Law looks like a bit of a mummy's boy to me - don't really see why he's supposed to be a sx-symbol.
