AW,
I've posted my Dream Team on TS: you have a starring role.

Evening everyone,
glad to see you've been keeping it clean and tasteful on here today .
This evening I am poised on the horns of a dilemma which you may be able to help me with: Should I stop watching ER, or not?
Thanks

Evening Hazel.
Yes, stop watching it. Why? No idea, I've just never really fancied it at all.
To ER or not to ER?
The Magster Posted Apr 24, 2003
Hazel, It's funny you should ask that because I made such a decision before the current series started. I read all the gumph on the spoilers boards and decided it was going to be too Carter focussed and so I made the decision, not to watch this series. I haven't missed it at all and prior to this series I was an avid fan, taping, watching, re-watching etc etc. I never ever liked Carter so I couldn't face up to watching more of him, plus they turned Abby into a blonde wimp and I would always be missing Mark. Hope this helps with your decision

Hi Pat,
"I've just never really fancied it at all.". Well, I don't think you can really get away with that statement!

Fair enough: I'll try to rationalise.
1. Generally, I'm no fan of hospital dramas. Domestically, Holby City, Casualty and the like always seemed to me to be trying to cram too much drama and excitement into what is essentially a mundane and somewhat depressing environment. Additionally, all the characters took themselves so seriously when an almost essential requirement for most hospital workers IRL is an active (if slightly morbid) SOH.
2. Additionally, I'm not a huge fan of US dramas. There are honourable exceptions (24, The Sopranos) but by and large it seems to me that the constraints of too frequent advert breaks destroy the rhthym.
3. When it started over here, I got sick of everyong swooning over Clooney.
4. Consequently, I've never really fancied it at all, although I'm the first to admit I haven't even given it a chance.

What's ER?
Stop watching it, Hazel. My reasons are:
1) Telly is boring and corrupts even the finest minds;
b) Life is too short to watch telly when you could be reading a good book or listening to the Cranes back catalogue;
f) Watching a classic series deteriorate is akin to witnessing beautiful orchids withering away for want of water, light and the tender care of their forgetful owner; the summer days growing gradually, yet inexorably shorter with the onset of autumn, as the sun's powers start to wane and winds grow colder and more urgent; or a great talent such as Gazza losing his physical prowess and razor-sharp skills as age and the effects of alcohol take their toll upon his pain-wracked body.
Alternatively, grab a huge bar of Toblerone and carry on watching it.
I hope this either lifts you out of the cleft of the horns of your dilemma or succeeds in amputating them.

Magster,
I never read spoilers but I have found that the current series has become softer - no, soggier would be a better word. I liked Carter better when he ws on drugs!
Pat - I don't watch any other hospital shows & would agree that they are generally very unrealistic. It is easier to suspend disbelief with a US show, and I used to enjoy ER for the characters. I didn't catch 24 but love the Sopranos.
Well - seeing as I am still being Firm but Fair I will give it one last shot now!
See you later & thanks!

Oh, that's just fine. You ask for advice, I give it and then you totally ignore me.

wysiwyger Posted Apr 24, 2003
Ali - we cross-posted! You're certianly right about one thing - it would go better with Toblerone!
p.s. who's Gazza?

Ali Dubya Posted Apr 24, 2003
Hazel,
He's a former 'Association footballer', I believe, who was renowned for consuming substantial quantities of alcolholic beverages.
Is Alex Kingston still is ER?
Evening shift
Pat Pending Posted Apr 24, 2003
Actually, he's a current Association Footballer, plying what remains of his trade in China.

It's my narrow hips and muscular thighs, Magster.
They really get the boys going.

Yes you did Alstair And now we know why you play all those "manly" games such as rugby and cricket. You just love the shower scenes
Evening shift
wysiwyger Posted Apr 24, 2003
Ali - yes Alex Kingston is still doing her ice-maiden Brit-act amplified by her current I-lost-the-love-of-my-life AND I have a lickle beybey to look after stance. Is that your sort of thing, then??

wysiwyger Posted Apr 24, 2003
Why does LouLou need a cold shower? What did I miss?
p.s. thumbs-down for ER. I know I know - they will be Devastated.
