9/11

It's the 2nd Anniversary of the attacks. I've already seen political commentary on a thread for the Anniversary. You'd think that people could give it a rest for just a single day, out of respect for the dead, if not for Researchers in mourning.

This is in memory of the victims of 9/11/2001.

Political Threads

I've decided to stay completely away from the political threads for my own sanity. As I've said elsewhere, I don't expect everyone to see the world my way. Far from it. I come to hootoo to get different viewpoints, and I learn a lot here. When the discussions are polite and reasoned, the exchange of information can be incredible. I'm well aware of the shortcomings of the American media; I understand that in many cases we hear exactly what our government wants to hear. So this site is a wonderful place to see what's going on in the minds of the rest of the world.

On the other hand, when people start making cases along the line of Americans deserving "so-called" atrocities like 9-11 because we're a nation of greedy, selfish warmongers, it makes me crazy. Or comparing body counts in various fights, like it's okay for the killing to continue until the scales even out on the number of deaths.

How can ANY event that kills 3000+ people be a "so-called atrocity"? I just can't get my mind around the concept. Doesn't matter who dies, or who does the killing. It's an atrocity, pure and simple. And the thought that anyone could think otherwise literally sickens me.

So, no more. I've cut back on the political threads before, then wandered back in when things quieted down a bit and the discussions got rational again. But it's just not worth the aggravation anymore. I was literally so angry last night I felt like I was going to throw up, and that's just not healthy. When I want world opinion, I'll go to the various international news sites.

You don't get the interaction with other people and their viewpoints, but you also don't get treated like you deserve to die because of the country you were born in.

Firearms Qualifications

I'm outta town for a few days. As a law enforcement officer, I've got Firearms Qualifications twice a year, and the time has come. I'll probably be back online Thursday night or Friday.

Wish me luck! And keep on Russian Tigger Jigging!
