Healing...I hope
Posted Feb 20, 2004
Well, there may actually be light at the end of the tunnel, other than the oncoming train!
Over the last few days, I've actually had a few hours where NOTHING HURT, quite literally for the first time in months!
I'm not saying I'm pain-free... the whole arm still hurts off and on, quite often for no apparent reason. But even a bit of relief is a wonderful thing after all this time!

Starting Over
Posted Feb 4, 2004
Went back to therapy for an evaluation today. My insurance isn't wanting to pay for more treatment, so we'll see how big a battle that turns into.
In the midst of all the poking and prodding, the therapist decided to compare, and tested the same spots for pain on my LEFT shoulder, elbow, and wrist. Turns out I'm way more tender on that side than I should be, too. Also have inflammation on that side, though not nearly as severe.
She wants me to get some blood testing done, and see about getting a referral to a rheumatologist. I thought they were arthritis specialists, but I guess they do all sorts of stuff related to the immune system. The therapist just doesn't think that the RSD diagnosis covers all the problems I'm having.
So. I have an uncooperative insurance provider, and the so-called experts can't seem to figure out just what's wrong with me.
All I know is that I'm so sick of all this I can barely stand it.

Recovery
Posted Jan 21, 2004
Hi all,
Just a line to tell everybody I'm back home and mostly ok. Arm hurts and the drugs make me woozy, though, so I won't be online long.
Thanks a bunch for all the support with this, I'd have been even more of a basket case without everybody cheering me up. You guys are great, and I appreciate you all!
Back later, when I'm a bit more stable...

Surgery
Posted Jan 15, 2004
Well, I'm now scheduled for surgery next Tuesday. The short version: they'll go in and cut the sheath that holds the tendons that operate my thumb, to relieve pressure, and give me a cortisone shot in the elbow while they're at it.
The one positive thing is that I talked the into putting me under. He had wanted to do it with me awake, and that scared the sh*t out of me!
I'm upset it's gonna happen, but also relieved. Maybe this will give me some relief, finally

Today is the anniversary of my Mom's death.

I miss ya, Mom
Ironically enough, it's also the anniversary of the day I originally blew out my wrist. I got the news she'd died while I was on the road, and nearly wrecked my truck. Injured the wrist wrestling with the steering wheel.
Tough day.
