I'm certain you will pass this time. You'll have had plenty of practice.
I have a friend from a long ago online endeavor that lives in Oz. I think she lives in Alice Springs. I keep thinking to one day go and visit.
Some of the best places for striking up a conversation are pubs. You can find them on the pub crawl page I listed above. The Lighthouse Bar has moved though, it's now at <./>F70774?thread=192585</.>. I spend alot ( relatively speaking of course) of time at the Lighthouse, The 18th Hole at the Lupine Golf Course, The Royal h2g2 Procrastinator's society's pub, and some of the fan clubs, which are by no means private and many have turned into gathering places. Mine is a penthouse in NYC started by Michele, Lurcher's is the aforementioned golf course, and the list goes on.
An easy way to break into these conversations would be to go to my page by clicking my name above then just clicking on the conversations listed there. None are overly private. Even the ones that are just myself and another researcher chatting. My 'private' threads mostly start the same as this one. With me saying Osiyo (Cherokee for hello). Most of the others are gathering places.
Finally, the smileys. If you click on any of the smileys in a conversation it will take you to the smiley page. To insert one you do as follows:
= 'weird' and you put it in < > so it would look like <.weird.> (without the ..) or you can put the shortcuts, which are similar to how they are done in chats and email. Both ways are listed on the smiley page.
I'll be out of town for the next few days so while I will be online it won't be with any sort of consistency. If you get stuck just ask one of the other ACEs if you can't wait til I return. Michele is always a gret one to help and you can tell her I told you to bother her with reckless abandon.

How do I start a community discussion on a topic that I would like to talk about?
PS I got it to work .

Batty_ACE Posted Sep 12, 2002
Well.. first you may want to check to see if there isn't already a discussion in place. There might be several. Just use the search engine to see. If not then what you can do is start a page about what you're interested in by clicking the 'contribute' button and following the links and information. If you don't want the page considered for inclusion in the guide [which you might choose if it were just an informal discussion area or a pub or something] make sure to click that box.
Once you have your page then start a thread yourself inviting people to discuss it. You can then add the link to conversations you're having in other fora. Just make sure it all follows the <./>HouseRules</.>.
Let me know when you have it started. I'd like to drop by for a visit. Good luck. If you need help just let me know..

I just checked the page. Interesting topic. It's something I've often wondered myself. It ought to bring all sorts of discussion.
Some responses may be a bit strong though. Just remember the <./>HouseRules</.> are there to protect you also. If someone gets abusive just call me or one of the other Aces to help diffuse it. Or you can yikes the offending entry in the thread by clicking the button at the bottom of it, that's the little gray shocked looking face on the bottom right of this (or any) discussion entry. Though what will likely happen is others in the discussion will try to diffuse the situation.
